UPDATE: My lower arrived, and Bill Savage (Bill's Gun Shop, Pipersville, PA) was again supremely helpful and accomodating, offered me no guff for taking advantage of his ultra-cheap FFL service even though I was too low on the funds to buy any of his Garands, ARs, AKs, or 1911s (and I would really like one of the Taurus 1911s). the laser engraving went well -- I was hoping the white would be slightly brighter, but it's well within the expectable range. Jon at Anvil was very responsive as well. Pictures of the lower sometime after my final exams :)

--------------------------------

I'm excited -- went with Anvil, at the near insistence of many on this board; I'm hopeful that the design I included was successfully laser-engraved on the side, but if it's not, it's still a decent price for an AR lower with parts kit. (just over $200)

I am unlikely to get it all kitted out with those other bits (like, say, a barrel) for a little while, but those bits are now on the list for either this summer in TN, or toward Fall in WA. Of course, if you have tired of your AR bits, are independently wealthy, and eccentric, I do take donations ...

"Any thoughts on what its going to be when it grows up?"

Well ... my first upper will almost certainly be in .223, and I think a carbine length barrel. I'm going to learn more about stocks before I commit to a particular kind, but so far I like the feel of the collapsable / adjustable ones best.

I'd like a .22 upper on it in the medium future, because I am not rich enough for much .223 ;)

I'm going with LMT. Picked up an LMT Defender 2000 lower yesterday, and I am picking up an LMT 16" carbine upper in a few weeks (once the next couple of paychecks come in).

And I like the collapsible stocks, too. If you are like me, you want to get running with minimal expense. I chose to buy high quality stuff (hence LMT). I can uppgrade with rails or whatever later.

Stock up on mags and ammo now, too. Magpul PMAGS are looking pretty good, but I'd still get a few GI aluminum mags, just in case.

And I am going to get a .22LR upper sometime in the future (Spike's Tactical, probably)...objective now is to get a high quality fighting rifle.
