I just finished this one and thought I'd share some pics.
I have always loved the Ruger SP101, and I always had imagined what my ultimate SP101 would be. When I started this project, I had in mind a full satin finish, but then settled on a duo tone look with a polished cylinder, trigger guard, and accessories.
Here is a list of everything I did to the pistol:
Full polish action job, super smooth Double Action Only using stock springs. Super secret recontouring and polishing of trigger/hammer engagement surfaces.
Timing and lockup on this pistol is real nice, but the cylinder endshake was removed with a custom made bearing, yielding a perfect .006" barrel/cylinder gap.
Chamfered and polished charging holes and chambers, and a polished ring around front of barrel.
The screw hole where the cylinder latch button was left rough cast so it was machined to clean it up.
Completely recontoured and perfectly blended cylinder stop nub with the frame.
Recontoured and rounded and beveled trigger, polished hammer, polished pins.
Lots more little stuff that is probably not worth mentioning.
There is over 30 hours of hand finishing to carefully remove most machining marks prior to the fine bead blast satin finish and polishing.
To top it off, is a Trijicon night sight up front, and a set of awesome Hogue rubber grips with a polished stainless hex screw on the bottom. For a shooter, I wouldn't accept anything other than the Hogue rubber grips. The hogue grip tames the heaviest of recoil out of this small pistol with full power .357 loads.
This project has yielded, for me, my perfect Ruger SP101.
Enjoy the pics!
