Im looking into some custom grips for my Super Blackhawk. I really like the Ajax white Pearlite and also the buffalo horn. Anyone have either of these on a , preferably blued, single action? Also pictures of any others and where you got them would be great.

Thanks.

Iffy if those brands will give a good fit. Just me, but check the wares from Klamath River and CaryC. Won't find finer Ruger grips then those two.

Here's some I've gotten:

Hawiian Koa (VERY impressive in person - an almost 3d effect.

These are some curly red oak I got from 41 magnum on Ruger Forum. Also has some nice grips currently available.

Something to think about on the Pearlite ones or ivitation ivory nes is that they're rather prone to cracking if overtightened. If not by the screw pressure but also buy having it too tight and the recoil can create cracks on these as well if too tight. An alternative is the Hollywood. It's an almost white with a very slight grain.

I have always been partial to stag on single actions. I got These from Eagle Grips back when Sambar was not equal to gold by weight.

I took some time to fit them properly and I have to smooth some of the rougher edges on the bark portions.

horn

Go with wood, stag or synthetic. Buffalo horn will shrink over time.
Not to mention bugs can and will bore holes in it.
Ask me how I know.

Ajax is a good honest company, but I gotta tell you, the pearlite grips they sell are not what you want. They look fine when new, but with a little use, they turn dark gray. I had two pairs and threw them away.

I've had buffalo horn on a Colt SA for fifteen years and haven't had a problem with it.

Klamath River grips are certainly worth your consideration.

If I were going to use any kind of grips made of non-natural material, micarta is about all that I would trust not to warp or easily break.

Stormspotter,

Who made the IWB holster in your picture. That looks great ! I would love to be able to CCW my Blackhawk.
