My Norinco with Tapco compliance kit, Choate scope mount and cheap scope. The barrel has been threadded since this picture and a yugo style brak was installed

Here's my Yugo (sorry the pics aren't better).
I stripped the furniture, dyed it with black non-grain raising dye and topped it with 4 coats of a wiping poly. I used 3 light coats of Duracoat Gray Wolf on the hardware. I paid $125 for it and have about $60 tied up in refinishing materials. After some modification to the gas valve it's a great shooter.

Photo from about 5 years ago, with some friends. Taken during a camping trip.

It was a first anniversary present from my girlfriend, who's now my wife, and my first semi-auto centerfire rifle. It's not going anywhere.

I have been looking for one for a long time....but so weary about the internal condition since so many around here abuse them so badly. I wish I would have picked one up back when they were still under 200.00 a peice

Keep your eyes peeled for good deals-they are still out there. At the end of the summer I managed to find a 1953 Tula for $200, in flawless condition at Cabela's (needless to say I picked it up). Wish I had some pics.

So keep up hope-there is still good stuff out there.

That's one of the reasons I went with a brand new AK type rifle, even though the SKS has grown on me considerably. I have a C&R license and numerous C&R rifles, but there are times where I just don't want to concern myself with bore condition and corrosion.

Still, I wish I had grabbed a Russian or Chinese SKS years ago when they were still readily available at sane prices.

I guess I'm missing something or price hikes come slow to my area. There is a local pawn shop here that has three SKS for around $250.00 or so. Not anything like the $400-$500 people are talking about. I think two are Norinco and I can't remember what the other one is. Wish I had the money, I'd snap them all up if these things are really going for what people say they are.

Anyone want to send me $750.00? I'll send you two and keep one for myself

this is mine how i bought it. I'm getting the tapco t6 stock for it and I want to change the handgaurd.

Of the SKSs imported into the US, I'm going to guess that a higher percentage of Yugos were used in combat with corrosive ammunition. So a higher percentage of them will have corroded gas valves. Since they don't have chrome bores, if they weren't cared for during their service, the barrels are likely to show more damage.

I work with a Croatian and he can verify you're spot on, they were used quite a bit.

This was the first day I got it and shot the hell out of it and got it a lil dirty.

Few months later.

With my Mosin on a shoot day...I only dished out a lil bit of ammo for that day.

EDIT: I don't have that many pics of my SKS, maybe I should go take some more.
