Howdy All,

I seen posts about Pietta "Old Silver" 1858 Remingtons with photo engraving, two-tone frames and so forth, for-sure a purdy six-shooter ! :D

I was lookin' at another, different "Old Silver"...

I know the caliber is not technically "correct" but Pietta makes the 1851 style in .44 caliber. Cabela's and a bunch of other folks like my local Bass Pro has 'em under the "Traditions" brand. There's a photo engraved 5 inch barrel "US Marshall" model and a non-engraved full-length barrel "Old Silver" 1851. The price is really attractive for the later, I thought the "US Marshall" looked a little gaudy.

The metal is polished steel described as "similar to stainless and will not rust" on a couple of websites. :scrutiny:

Anybody have any experiance with these Piettas ?

The "Old Silver" is a good hundred dollars less than the stainless Remmie at my local Bass Pro !

I wish Pietta would make a stainless 1860 but for now this "OLD Silver" 1851 might be just the thing !

I got me one of them on order, let y'all know what I think once she lands on my porch ! ;)

Happy Trails,

Cincinnati Slim

From what I understand, that polished steel is tough to clean. Also, even stainless will rust, eventually, if not taken care of properly. Bare carbon steel will definately rust, polished or not.

Got the Pietta 1851 "Old Silver" today !

Howdy,

Despite nasty ice storms and a MLK Holiday the USPS got my Pietta 1851 "Old Silver" to Cincy today. Left Impact Guns in Utah Friday !

I had heard prices for Italian imports were set to go up, their price was the best on the "net" and now they are Out-of-stock so I guess I made my move at the right time. Looks like a durn good deal, was less than $ 250.00 delivered.:)

Except for the springs it's ALL stainless/polished steel including hammer, trigger, triggerguard and screws. I'll be taking a magnet to the various pieces tonite to see what's really stainless or just polished. Seems well finished and the grips are right purdy.:) No thick red varnish like a lot of Italian imports, nice grain figure and very good fit to frame and backstrap. Action is pretty tight and barrel to cylinder gap is way too small so I'll be doing a little tinkering to get things running smoother. :scrutiny:

I'll let y'all know how she shoots once I get out to the range...;)

Happy Trails,

Cincinnati Slim

p.s. my spare Pietta 1860 Army cylinders interchange fine with this "Navy"
I know a .44 caliber 1851 ain't histerically kerrect but It sure makes my life easier ! I got that Pietta 1860/1851 parts kit from Cabela's so I'm covered w/regards to spares.

The two-tone "Old-Silver" always seemed to me like a an attempted replica of the gun Lee Van Cleef used in TGTBTU. He had a Remington with a nickel or white frame and a blued barrel and cylinder.

Nice to know it is Pietta. Sometimes retailers don't metion if it's Pietta or Uberti. $250 is a great deal. The cheapness is one of the reasons I got into BP revolvers. Now I'm hooked.
