I was at the Cabelas in Lone Tree south of Denver today and saw a Pietta SAA clone in 44 mag . Now Ruger decided a long time ago they needed to beef up the already strong Blackhawk frame to handle 44 mag and here I was looking at a tiny 1873 clone chambered the same. I told the guy behind the counter that it looked scary and he looked at me like I cursed his ma and walked away. Am I the crazy one here or are the general public going to blow up their Piettas with full-house magnum loads?

I had one. Nice revolver. I just stuck to standard load 240gr SP's and it worked great. Plenty accurate and after a few hundred rounds, mine was still tight as new. Called it my Hog Leg. I got pulled over on my motorcycle once with that in my jacket. The officer asked if I had any weapons, then asked me to remove it. When I pulled that 6in barrel monster out of my coat he almost fainted, lol.:D Told me to "Stay Put" while he ran my info.... I got a $165 ticket for 4 over in a 35mph zone....:banghead:

Ya know, Great Western marketed an SAA replica in .44Mag back in the `60's. Anything is possible but it's unlikely that it's the same frame size.

Hmmm...

I just looked through the Pietta catalog on their site. They list their SAA as available in three different calibers (.45LC, .357MG, and 44/40), but no .44 Magnum.
