Hi,

I am getting a Richard Microfit Gunstock for my Savage MKII. I am planning on both pillar and glass bedding the rifle stock, beyond that I will have to obviously finish the rifle stock.

In what order would you recommend I do things?
My best guess: Finish, Pillar, Glass

Thanks!

EDIT: Also, if you any of you know of good internet guides for glass and pillar bedding please let me know. I've found some good ones, but I'm sure there is more out there.

Pillar bedding & glass bedding go hand and hand, and you do them both at pretty much the same time.
The pillars are glassed into the stock..

And you should do all that and final cleanup & sanding before finishing.

Unless you want to refinish, after you get glass bedding drips and sticky finger prints all over the finish.

+1 on bedding then finishing, I made the exact mistake rcmodel is talking about with a 1903 stock. I finished it, decided to bed it thought I did a great job on the prep, ...., I did not. You live and you learn.

I often do not bother to glass bed 223 rifles.

I do glass bed hard kicking rifles, but it never seems to make them any more accurate.
Glass bedding poorly can cause accuracy to be much worse.
So I have got some great gains from glass bedding when someone else had already done it so wrong that there was a long bind on the barreled action.

I pillar bed Rem700 front and rear.
I pillar Mauser at least in the rear, and sometimes in the front.

Almost certainly no more accuracy will be measured, you and I will do it anyway, but here are the links.
