My daughter has decided she HAS to have a .22 pistol, and it HAS to be pink. She'd prefer a auto loader, and more something like a Walther P22 rather than the Ruger or Browning Buckmark. Any suggestions? Should I get her a Walther P22 and try to refinish the polymer stock, or are there other, better alternatives? Thanks for any info.

This is the daughter... thank you SO much for writing back! I am so excited to get my gun and you have helped so much! Thanks again!

This is dad again. Well, you made her day. She's decided on a Browning Buckmark Camper, and we're going to duracoat the grip panels in Rose. Thanks!

You don't have to lie, man. If you want a pink gun there's nothing wrong with that . . .

Maybe you should post pics of it when you get it done.

Post pictures when you've got it, you hear? :D

who also likes pink guns...

That's great, I bought my youngest daughter a pink Cricket .22lr a few years back. And now at 8 she decided that she didn't want a pink gun and made me sell it.:D

Yes now that you've said something you need to post pics when it's done!
The more family enjoyment and participation we show the more it irritates the antis that we are right.
I've seen some awesome duracoated guns DURACOAT. I've even seem some pink camo ones. You could krylon it but I have concerns about how well that holds up.

Pics will be posted when it's done. I told her we weren't going to paint the entire gun, in case she decided she didn't like pink at some point, and she looked at me like I'm a dolt and said, "duh, dad. I don't want a whole pink gun, just the grips." So I guess I don't have to worry about selling it if she moves out of her pink phase, just replacing the grips. Thanks for the information. She was amazed that there was so much help so readily available. I told her this is the best community in the world.

Just as an aside, she is doing her independent study on gun control. She'll have a presentation to make to her class, and then a night where she has a display, brochures and answers questions. I'll post more on that too, as well as pictures. She was going to try and get permission for me to bring a gun in to the school. NOW, she wants to try and get permission to bring her gun! I'm not good enough anymore.

Well, it's off to the gun store. She can't bear to wait any longer than she has to.

Kinda late here, but Taurus sells a pink .22 pocket pistol, kinda like the Beretta Jetfire or whatever it's called.

We looked at the Taurus, but she didn't like it. She hated the name Taurus, so that was the end of it. This has been a whole new kind of gun shopping. Very fun though.

PICS

Well, we are finished with the pink project. We had a great time working on this. Duracoat is great stuff, and the airbrush kit worked perfectly. Tell us what you think. We really like it.

The first shooting picture is her shooting the Buckmark, pre-pink project.

The second is her getting ready to shoot my 9mm CZ P-01. She prefers her gun. Go figure. At least mine is safe from the paint . . . for a while.

this is the daughter... thank you so much, Steve for your help again! I am so happy with the job and I can't wait to show my gun off!

WOW!

That came out better than I thought it would. I really like the contrast.

I was trying to think what a all pink pistol would look like. LOL.

But it turned out really nice.

I bet you are just waiting to show it off. I would too!

Glad to help...my 8 year old daughter is really getting into shooting with dad also.

So far i've cut down a Ruger 10/22 for her, and next it gets a red dot sight to help on seeing what she's shooting at.

Last weekend she shot the 10/22, but also shot dad's AR15, Colt 1911, S&W 28(.357mag), S&W 629(.44mag) and S&W 625(.45ACP) with dads help of course.

Keep her involved we need all of the women shooters possible in this country.

Steve

On the same range trip I had her shoot my 1911 .45 and tried to get her to shoot the AR, but there were too many other rifles being shot, and the muzzle blast from the guns on either side was too disconcerting. Maybe sometime I'll get her on the AR.

You are right that I was waiting to show off the paint job. It came out much better than I thought it would, especially on the grips. Taping those off was a bear! My son is already thinking he needs his .22 rifle painted in camo now. Duracoat has the colors AND the peel and stick templates necessary for any kind of camo you could possible imagine. I think I have opened a Pandora's box here!

I have, in the past few months, gotten my wife and daughter, and the wives of at least 5 of my friends, interested in shooting. So much so that they are all planning on taking the CHL course together. If they tell 2 friends, and they tell 2 friends, and so on, and so on . . .

And finally, my pride and joy is that my daughter is working on her independent study project, and chose to do gun control. She will be making a presentation, will have a display, and will have brochures. Gunfacts.info has been her savior, and her presentation will be very eye-opening to any anti-gunners who happen by.

Life is great!

I'm really afraid to show my daughter this thread. She can't stand pink, I don't know why since she's a little girly girl, but she loves blue, green and camo.

She'd probably want dad to paint her gun camo, what a project that would be.

My wife(who grew up in Texas) had really never been a gun person until we met 2-1/2 years ago. Now she really likes shooting and has a 10/22 & a Glock 26 of her own. She's 4 months pregnant now so no shooting or new guns for her.

Keep up the good work.

Steve

If I knew my girls wouldn't get kicked out of school for it, I would buy both of them t-shirts with this logo on it.

I just bought the same model buckmark. That color job you did came out nicely.

Hey, one question - I've had my buckmark only 1 week - and I've shot it one time. But I cleaned it before and after I shot it. And each time, I CANNOT get that polymer firing pin assembly (with the guiderod) out of the slide - It's stuck in there - despite the instructions showing that it just easily comes out.

Do you have any problems removing that part?
