In the near future, my girlfriend and I will be getting an apartment. I have always lived in the country and I really hate cities, especially one with gang activity and meth addicts strolling about.

In the comfort of my own home, I'm armed with several pistols within arms length when I'm at my computer. (90% of the time right now) School is starting up again, we're moving, and hopefully I become employed soon. With all of this going on, I'm concerned about her safety...

Which leads us to this. I know of certain manufacturers that make pink framed handguns, most of which are .22 caliber. She wants a self defense weapon to both carry and to target shoot with. BUT....she wants a pink one.

Any other manufacturers make pink framed/handled pistols (preferably an Auto-loader, but a nice revolver would suffice) that would fit this role?

I've seen Charter arm's Pink Lady .38sp revolver. That'd be a hell of a lot better than a .22.

Seriously though, it is so limiting to be stuck on getting a pink gun. They're are so many really great handgun manufactorers out there that simply don't make pink guns. Try to talk her out of only getting a pink gun.

Although ,if someone pulled a pink gun on me, I might actually hesitate to defend myself just on the count of its pinkness. :)

Well, I actually want her to get a Glock 26. She's shot one before, quite accurately too.
The Charter Arms kind of appealed to her, and was my choice over the Sig and Walther .22's. But, she won't shoot my Dan Wesson 4 inch barrel with .38 Specials. I've tried several times, she just don't like the idea. Maybe because it's a large, bulky revolver.
Guns I would carry are as follows (with why she could/couldn't handle it or like it):

Keltec 9mm or 380: I know the trigger on the P11 is horrible and really hard to properly aim. I'm not sure about the 380, but would like her to focus on 9mm and 38 specials. Although both are small enough to fit into her purse with ease.

Small 1911: I would love for her to get one of these. Preferably 9mm, the 45's have a bit too much recoil for her. Cost and weight are the major issues here.

Glock 26: Small, light, and very accurate for their size. She's shot one and knows she can handle one with ease. I actually wouldn't mind one for myself. Cost is borderline her budget.

Charter Arms 38 Special: PINK!! 38 Special is a good self defense round. The revolver would be easier for her to carry loaded IMO, and maybe a bit more reliable in a SHTF situation (she also works in a pharmacy, which pharmacies are prone to armed robberies).

I guess if she wants a pink gun, I can paint it. :D

Any more suggestions on carry guns for her? I know her limits well with handguns, so no "Let her pick it out" advice. She hasn't had much experience with anything larger than a .22, but picked up every pistol hitting the target every shot.

My GF had the same issue. She wanted a pink gun. I'll tell you the same thing I told her. Statistics show that the majority of times that a person draws a gun that person doesn't actually need to fire it. The scare factor takes care of the problem without ever having to fire a shot. Now, while I wouldn't depend on the scare factor, it is nice to have. A pink gun isn't gonna scare someone who thinks its a toy. People are used to seeing black or chrome not pink. For that reason alone I don't carry the olive drab versions of some of the guns I have however cool they look.
Aside from all of that limiting yourself to a color just seems silly. How about this, get her something based on comfort of handling and carry that has the option of changing out the grips for some custom pink ones. Say CZ-P01 or something like that. Just my .02 Good luck

Taurus has some semi autos with pink polymer frames.

My wife carries a compact 1911.
It is soon to be a project gun, it is getting its frame done in pink.
It is getting the slide, beavertail, trigger, slide lock, thumb safety... done in black chrome.
It is also getting black textured grips with a pink embossed Helio Kitty head on them.
One of the reasons I am doing this for her, is for it to become a conversation starter with other women and girls... my wife open carrys.
It is just another way to get non shooters to look at guns in a new light.
If she has to draw it, and the BG doesnt take it seriously... then he will just have to take 7 hydra shoks and the holes they leave seriously then.

Pink gun = less likely to be taken seriously = less deterrent = less safety = greater likelihood of having to actually fire

If she won't carry anything else, maybe it's worth it, otherwise not, IMO of course.

Anyway, to answer your question, the best .22 in pink is arguably the Sigarms mosquito, which is available with a pink polymer frame.

What Robocop said. There are very few factory pink guns out there; you'd be much better off getting her something with first priority being suitability for SD, and then Duracoating it pink whenever you can swing the money to have it done.

I gotta throw out there, though, that if she's got such silly insistences as "it has to be pink" when talking about potentially defending her life, does she have the right mindset to even be carrying a firearm at all?

Is this something she wants to do, or is it an idea you're pushing on her? Even an .88 Magnum isn't going to do her any good if she doesn't take the thing seriously or practice with it, nor is she going to be making herself or anyone else around her any safer...

My wife's pink plinker... She loves this gun. Hmmm... Maybe more than me!

I hate to disagree with the above thread, but I would put the Walther above the Sig Mosquito... Even the guys over at the Sig Forums seem to shun the Mosquito. (Kinda like a pink-headed step child)

Her carry gun is a black Bersa 380CC until the new Walther PK380 hits the streets:

do you pull it out if you dont need to fire it?

mio, I believe that the sight of a gun will deter many a miscreant. Just because you draw doesn't mean that you have to fire.

Also, my local shop has a J-Frame with pink grips (I think a 637, but not sure) and it isn't any more expensive than a regular model.

PK380? What's the deal with that? Why wouldn't you just get a PPS? Better yet, with the PPS making sales why would walther even develop that gun?

Taurus makes the millennium pro in pink. It is a Gander Mountain exclusive. It comes in 9mm.
I would have to second Duracoating though. Have her find the right gun, then do it in the pink she prefers. As a girl that also loves pink..this is the route I am going. I bought a 1911 compact that my husband and I are going to duracoat the frame pink, leaving the slide, hammer, trigger and safeties all in black. When we are all done with that, we are putting Hello Kitty type grips on it. Just because it will be pink...doesn't mean that I am any less suited to carry a gun. I go to the range 2x a week....spending 2 hours at least there. Wanting a pink gun is a preference...no different that wanting a stainless, blued, or olive drab one.

Yeah...ahhh. ummm..chooseing a defensive weapon based on it's color. Yeah that's ahhh...hmmm nevermind.

If that didnt happen every day we wouldnt have pistols of all kinds of colors and finishes everywhere.
Not much different than a guy choosing between a pistol in parkerized, blued, nickel, etc. Or choosing to change the grips on his pistol because he likes the way another set looks.
Get her what she wants, the more she likes it... the more likely she is to get out and practice with it.

So preference for finish should play NO role in selecting your weapon of choice after you have decided on a base and a caliber? Wow...someone should have told that to the manufacturers before they started with stainless finishes, blued, parkarized, nickel, camo..ect,ect,ect.
I think it is great that people (not just women) can now find guns suitable to their tastes and preferences. Isn't the entire point, educating and showing people the benefits to carrying and self defense rather than making "that's silly" and "that's never mind" statements because YOU don't agree with girls wanting pink finished guns.

Now I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but I think the whole concept of a pink gun (especially one with hello kitty on the grip) fuels the fire of the anti-gun crowd. What better ammo could you possibly give them for kids potentially mistaking real guns for toys? A pink gun just seems kind of silly and childish to me. It's a tool, not a fashion accessory.

We dont have children who are mindless apes wandering the house and fondling guns at random.
We have 3 boys who would more than likely stick their tongue to the hot stove than touch anything pink or with hello kitty.
Now, we dont lay our guns around when out of the house for children to have the chance to think it was a toy.
People should teach their children manners enough that they wouldnt pick up a "toy" that didnt belong to them anyway... we have.
Look at the guns and holsters being sold and tell me that, to an extent, most people dont find a guns looks to be an important consideration.
That is just what this is... a functional weapon customized to its owners likes, without losing any function.
Caryn is an advocate for womens carry.
There are many women who have a fear of guns.
The cold black/blue steel can be intimidating to them.
Take a highly effective weapon, the 1911 in this instance, and make it more female friendly... and you could have a woman who would not have thought of owning a pistol considering it.
We are working towards our instructors licenses, Caryn is thinking of womens classes... classes for women by women.
Women are the fastest growing segment of new gun buyers.
I honestly look at the pistol I am doing for her the same way I would look at an olive drab, camo, desert sand, or deep gloss blued.
It is what a customer prefers.
She has the platform, the finances, the idea... so she gets a personalized carry pistol.

one of the xd talk forum guys got an xd duracoated pink for his wife, it looks great and she had an actual carry gun (not a plinker). I've been trying to find the thread for an hour and have had no luck, i'll try some more and try to get you the link.
