I've been looking around for something I can actually justify buying. I already have a shotgun, pistol, 22 rifle, and deer rifle. I would really love a bolt action carbine. I know about those kits for Enfields but seeing as I have zero gunsmithing experience I don't want to get too carried away. Does anyone know of any other bolt carbines?

Ruger also made a 77/44 in 44mag. Expect to pay more than book for one.

There is a fairly common milsurp Spanish bolt action carbine known as the "Destroyer", usually chambered for the 9mm Bergmann, also known as the 9mm Largo. They are also found in various other 9mm chamberings, though only rarely for the 9x19. CCI made a few runs of 9mm Largo Blazer ammo, and some surplus ammo shows up from time to time.

I shot a Destroyer once, with the aforementioned Blazer ammo, and it was a great time. Kind of like shooting any of the common milsurp bolt guns, minus the kick and blast. The rear sight flips up and elevates, and is calibrated out to ridiculous yardage. We managed to kick up dust right around the point of aim out at 500 yards.

.45 Auto has a pretty similar casehead size as the .30-06/.308 family. If you just barely opened up the bolt face, got a new barrel, and messed with the feed ramp, you probably could get a controlled-feed rifle to work with it. If you had a rifle with a detachable magazine, you might even be able to get someone to make you up a block fixture that could hold a 1911 magazine and then secure that piece within the body of the detachable mag. Depending on how complex you got, you may either end up with one giant magazine assembly with the 1911 mag permanently secured to the rifle mag body or possibly rig the rifle's detachable mag body to allow you to leave it in place and then change 1911 mags.

Just a thought.

.357 magnum and 7.62x39 are also pretty close. Maybe that CZ527 carbine could be converted. I think it has a detachable magazine too, so maybe you could rig up a similar idea as above using a Desert Eagle magazine or a Coonan mag. Then again, it might just feed from the factory magazine fine. Especially if you used 180-grain spitzers intended for .35 Rem.

Are you set on a bolt action? Lever action carbines are a lot of fun, and a whole lot easier to come by.

The Destroyer carbines are a fine little rifle. I traded a mint one to a THR member last year. Little sucker was pretty darn accurate, but I just really didn't need/ want it.

Built my own .45 ACP from a Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk 1, it's a lot of fun.

And my next project is a M44 Mosin Nagant in .454 Cassul (no .44 mag, please!). :)

Doubleg,I might have a 'practical solution' for you.The British company Armalon Ltd are a company that specialises in custom-building guns for the UK and overseas market. They were once famous for their excellent range of semi-auto centerfire rifles/carbines and Colt 1911/1991 pistols, but these days they are specialists in the Pistol Carbine business.

After our handgun ban 10 years ago, they produced these PC rifles,so that they still catered for the Brits and to gain the revenue that they had lost, during the handgun ban.I have a few pictures of them, which are built on an Enfield base and styled like the DeLisle Carbine.

Perhaps you could visit their website and ask about a possible importation, into the USA.Also check out their Colt 1911A1 customs, too.

Here is their website:http://www.armalon.com/pc.shtml

Hey Sterling,
Thanks for posting... those are some neat conversions!

Your welcome Leadhead.:):D

Besides,It would be a great boost to Armalon's business,if they actually had an importer in the US.Does anyone here know if Armalon Ltd has an official importer in the USA?

Oh and Iv'e just realised that someone has already posted the Armalon website details:eek::eek:.Well,still I have at least posted some pictures, instead.
