its my opinion that the trigger on my plain CZ-75b is pretty well broken in by now, and i find it to be satisfactory

but i want something with a crisper break...should i look at 1911? or can their triggers be as hit-and-miss as the rest?

i dont have experience with too many different models, so maybe the trigger on my CZ is better than i think and the problem is me, or maybe its worse than i think and i could do much better?

also, i dont care one bit about double action pull or any of that junk, strictly SA related question here

TIA, i'll be bach

1911's have a crisper break, but they usually come from the factory with a 7 or 8 pound lawyer trigger. A trigger job ($50-$75) can make the trigger a thing of beauty.
A Browning High Power can also be tweaked to have a very nice trigger.

Believe it or not I have a stock Ruger P345 that has as nice a single action trigger break as any production 1911 I have tried or owned.

Same with my Sig P6.

Not better than a good 1911, but every bit its equal.

I tried a "75th Anniversary" Browning HP the other day at the gun store that had a nice clean trigger, but it was quite heavy.

The only way to be sure to get a good trigger out of the box on a production gun is to try it before buying. There can be a lot of variation from gun to gun.

As noted, a new 1911 can have a crisp 3 1/2 pound match trigger, or an 8 pound rough & gritty one worse then the old GI guns.

But, almost any quality 1911 can have a crisp 3 1/2 trigger on it after a fairly simple trigger job.

My RIA 1911 had a 4 lb trigger out of the box. All my DW's, that cost 3 times as much, came the same, nice triggers. I can't get over what a nice pistol that Rock Island Arms 1911 is for such a low price! I got mine for $350 from a guy who shot it 5 rounds and it jammed, I put good mags in it (Checkmate) and it functions fine, and I'd consider it accurate even if it had cost $1200.

Any SA would be the best. The M&P after installing the Apex Tactical sear and striker can't be beat IMO, if we're talking striker fired.

The lightest, most crisp triggers I've ever touched were on a custom worked Kimber, and a custom Sig P220, but they weren't exactly OTB.

Best gun $1000 or less was HK Elite. Their target trigger is very nice in SA.

Best over $1000 was a Springfield 1911. There are lots of good 1911 triggers available.

Best striker fired is on the HK P7

The very best trigger I have ever personally experienced was a CZ .40 Tactical Sport. It was factory set at 2.0 lbs, had absolutely no creep, and the overtravel adjustment made the trigger feel like it didn't actually move rearward.

It was unusual, and at the same time amazing. However, a 2.0 lb trigger is way to light for probably 90% of shooters.

Send your CZ to CZ cutom,

http://czcustom.com/

have a trigger job done (which includes the custom hammer) and have them convert it to single action only and remove the firing pin block safety.

You will have a crisp 3lb trigger with minimal travel and about as close to a tuned 1911 as it gets without shelling out the 1K for a tuned 1911.

The other members are right about a CZ with a trigger mod, but the OP is looking for an OTB trigger, which I would think dis-qualifies a CZ Custom Shop gun :cuss:

However, when done right, the CZ Competition hammer in SA is practically as good as a tuned 1911, especially when you throw in a 13-15# hammer mainspring. I absolutely love my CZ's with these mods :p

I'd say "most" of todays handguns have "decent" triggers right out of the box. I think where the main problem lies is, are you capable of shooting them?

If you can shoot a DA revolver DAO, then you shouldnt have a problem with any of them. If youre a pampered, 2.5-3# SA only shooter, then youre probably not going to be happy.

Not all SA triggers are always all that great either. I've had factory S&W, SIG, and Glock triggers that were a LOT nicer than some of the factory Springfield SA 1911 triggers I've had, and I'm comparing the DA triggers to them, not the SA.

I have always been impressed with SIG's in general out of the box. I don't own one at present, and favor a tuned 1911 type. I just add the action work to the price of the gun, if it's needed.

The 1911.

If it isn't the sweetest thing as you have it, a good smith for a nominal fee can make it so.

Strictly speaking SA, the 1911 is pretty much in the tops. Even on some of the lower tier 1911s , the triggers are still pretty decent out of the box.
