But they might also have a dress code that makes me wear stuff I don't like, have me agree to take drug tests, or make me sign stuff promising not to do this or that, etc, ect thus "violating" my 1A rights. Well, I guess I gotta quit that job too?

This was the first time he has ever been late for his curfew,” said Lynn Sturgill, interviewed Sunday night in front of her Kenna Drive house, less than half a mile from Irmo High. “He’s a good kid.”
Yeah, dontcha know it's always the good kids who beat people up and try to take their money.

The media just loves to tell how innocent and wonderful the dead minor was.

Recently, a high school student in a nearby community was shot and killed near his high school by gang members. The media reported that he was a popular, kind young man not involved in gang activity in any way and that he was an excellent student and athlete bound for college with a promising life ahead of him. The guy was, in fact, a gang banging, drug peddling thug who was practically flunking out of school and ditching class when he was gunned down by a rival gang. It's disgusting how they canonize these punks.

You don't gotta do anything.

But if you know the rules going into the situation, don't whine and snivel about how you're being violated if you agree to follow them and then have consequences if you don't.

"Yes dear, when I married you I know I promised to be faithful. But hey, I'm a guy and you know how we are. We'll say anything to get you girls into the sack (or to land that job?). You didn't really expect me to keep my word, did you? Seriously now, it's all about making agreements, not honoring them."

For those of you wanting to boycott Pizza Hut because of their policy, then you should probably boycott the parent company as well along with their subsidiaries. After all, Pizza Hut isn't the one in charge.

Pizza Hut is owned by Yum Brand.
Yum owns...
Pizza Hut
Taco Bell
KFC
A&W Restaurants
Long John Silvers
Taco Bell
Wing Street

Yum Brand seems to be doing very well despite y'all's best efforts. Net and gross profits for 2006 were over that of 2005 and 2007 over that of 2006. I don't think the point is getting across.

Dont worry. Even the dollar meals will be hard to traffic out of those stores the way things are going financially. Just wait a while.

I remember long ago that you actually went inside and sat down to eat a pizza or ordered/waited for it and then took it home (Shakeys anyone?)

they are back in business again as a citizen.

What bothers me about this whole thing is Pizza Hut or other delivery services should already have checks in place to weed out or screen out incoming calls as invalid address, bad location etc.

When I was running pizza long ago, we had a large map on the wall 5 miles radius. Any phone number or address not matching that map constantly updated with prefixes from previous customers etc were discarded.

Once in a while we run to a new address and eyeball the area tatically before moving in with the pie to make delivery. But everything has to match. Sometimes that pie was returned to the store and customer told to come get it. If they did not, it became a snack for all the employees.

On a positive note, I can recall a workbreak I ran into making a delivery. A young lady showed up... *Shrugs.

The yelling from the manager was feral and abusive. But I was numb to it happy with the way things went with THAT delivery. =)

Gamera, and sometimes we pitched that awful triangular SIGN that is nothing more than a juice sucking, car battery killing parasite into the trunk. Rules be damned. LOL.

What would I give for the whole Kingdom for a good used Surplus LAV these days.

Paper said the 3 ate the pizza, while the 4th lay bleeding to death. (Assumed, because the pizzas were no where to be found)

Update... the pizza delivery man quit his job...
http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=71337&catid=2

Irmo (WLTX) - The Pizza Hut delivery driver who Lexington County deputies say shot and killed a person who tried to rob him has left his job.

Christopher Miller, 43, has resigned his position, according to Chris Fuller, a spokesperson for Pizza Hut.

Fuller would not discuss why Miller resigned, because he says it is a personnel matter.

Pizza Hut has a policy against employees carrying weapons.

Miller was carrying a loaded .45 caliber handgun during the incident. He has a valid concealed weapons permit.

Last Saturday night, Lexignton deputies say four men ordered pizza to a house on Avery Place Drive with the intent of robbing whomever delivered it. None of the four lived there and officials say the homeowner did not realize his home was being used for a robbery.

(Read More About the Crime, and Read a Statement from Miller)

One of the suspects was 17-year-old Paul Sturgill. During the robbery attempt and the resulting struggle, officers say Miller shot Sturgill. He later died.

(Related Story: Family of Sturgill Speaks Out)

Miller is not currently facing charges in the case, because deputies believe he acted in self-defense.

I deliver pies one night a week, for a company I have worked for part-time off and on for more than twenty years. I got back into it about two years ago on this once-a-week deal after running into an ex-boss there while buying some food.. kinda went back for "old-time's sake".
I won't come out and say whether or not I carry while working, because it is technically prohibited, as it is at Pizza Hut. However, I am hanging out on a gun forum, right..?
(I also hang out on www.tipthepizzaguy.com/discussion from time to time, and there are several cases of robbery in the threads there, along with safety and security ideas.)

One of the possible side affects of beating and robbing people is getting shot and or killed.

Sad a boy got killed.

Well, for what it's worth, I like Pizza Hut pizza, like pizza delivery people who get my pizza to me in a reasonable amount of time, and believe in freedom of choice about who you work for and who you buy from. I have had some jobs I wish I quit sooner. And I hope Shady gives that guy a job, and that nobody feels bad about this thread anymore.....

HOO-RAH for the working man

HOO-RAH for the working man. Still sad for the family of the deceased person. They are left in the wake of a sad story. I hope the 'Pizza-Man' can continue to make a living for his family in the community. GOD Bless all involved, Pray for the families on both sides of the story.

It is a sad story.

Not sure about the other two survivors, but Roundtree is a hardcore gang banger. I know he's done at least three stints in DJJ. Matter of fact, I think he just got released from his most recent one less than a month before this incident. Sturgis may have been a good kid, or this could have been an initiation.

As for felony murder for the three stooges - not likely. The Lexington County Solicitor's Office doesn't like to recommend real prison time. Worse, the judges around here absolutely refuse to give prison time (see Judge Goode, for example). This case is somewhat high profile so they may get 10 years or so, but likely not more.

As for crime in Irmo...on the upswing, especially gang related. The Friarsgate subdivision is full of Bloods and in the last year the number of home invasions, shootings, fights, burglaries, and robberies have risen a LOT. The gangs are also recruiting in the schools - including elementary and middle.

well, hopefully he can omit that from his resume and use other references, because I'm sure he's out of a job now. Hopefully the other 'upstanding citizens' that were involved get charged.

Update from the State newspaper (Columbia SC)

http://http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/712610.html

Solicitor: No charges in shooting by pizza man

A fatal shooting earlier this month will not lead to charges against the shooter, the 11th Circuit Solicitor's Office has decided.

After reviewing the Lexington County Sheriff's Department investigation into the March 7 shooting on Avery Lane, the solicitor's office and a Lexington County magistrate have agreed it was self-defense, the department said today.

Christopher Steven Miller, 43, was delivering pizza to a home when he was approached by a group of men who he said attempted to rob him. Miller fired a .45-caliber handgun at 17-year-old Paul Andrew Sturgill Jr., of Irmo, who died.

The ruling means Miller will not face any criminal charges from the incident.

Arrested as suspects in the attack were Justin Towan Roundtree, 18, Jason Todd Beckham, 18, and Carlos Renard Dates, 20, all of Irmo.

-- From staff reports

For those outside of SC - the Solicitor is a DA. Thank goodness there won't be any charges for using a gun to defend yourself against multiple assailants.

I don't know why the Delivery man quit, but I will bet it was suggested to him as the best alternative by Pizza Hut.

Corporations have policies against employees carrying firearms for a very good reason: It could cost them money.

If an unarmed employee is killed, then it is a law enforcement matter. Cost to the company, zero, zip, nada. (There might be the cost of replacing the carpet and a bottle of cleaning solution)

If an armed employee shoots someone, for what ever reason, there might be a lawsuit. Lawsuits are more expensive than carpet cleaning.

So the cold hard logic is this: A dead employee is not a risk to corporate profits.

Its all about profits.

Straw man / irrelevant. Of course not, because there IS NOT boycott against Yum Brand (whatever that is), because YUM brand doesn't have a stupid policy against carrying a tool for self-defense, in a very dangerous job, quite unlike Pizza Hut. Those are separate profit centers, and you boycott the correct profit center that has the stupid policy, to show the parent company which profit centers are profitable, and which are not. It's our job to try to make the stupid policy profit centers UN-profitable. But interesting to note that some people wear their failure to lift a finger to help a cause they purport to believe in as a badge of honor.

On the other hand....

In ~1981 the honor student living next door to my parents was delivering pizzas in SC. As he approached the front porch, 2 young men jumped in his (personal) car and began to drive away. He ran and jumped onto the hood, but they sped up, slinging the delivery boy off the hood and into the street where he died from head trauma.

The car was recovered. The thieves were never caught.
