Just got my Savage 10FP LE2. I want to use it mainly for target shooting. Could you guys give me some suggestion of the following accessory:

1. What base should I get? I want to go with a one piece base, better with several weaver slots to have the freedom to mount the ring and scope in the right place. Could you guys recommend some?

2. I want to use Harris bipod, but it seems to me there are so many models, which is better for my purpose? I will shoot this mainly from bench and prone position.

3. Do I need to buy adaptor to mount the Harris bipod on my Savage 10FP, or it just direct mount on the sling swivel stud?

4. Any good online place to buy these things at a good price?

Thanks in advance!

Most, if not all, of what you want can be had at Midway USA for afforadable prices. I can't give any reccomendations on particular items (having never owned a 10fp) but I can tell you that the Harris bipods should mount directly to your swing swivels. For target shooting (not hunting) the weight of the gun won't be a big issue so I would probably get the bipod that will give you the best stability. I would say you should probably buy the scope that you want and then figure out what kind of base and rings you would be able to use with it.

I bought a Ken Farrell one piece base 0 degree for my 10FP-LE1 Standard from Sharpshooter Supply. They deal in mostly Savage accessories. I think it cost me about 57 bucks with shipping.

I got a Harris S-BRM bipod from Midway USA. It's the swivel, 6-9 inch with notches. I don't recall, I think it was about $65, best price I found at the time, may have been on sale. Mine had 2 sling swivels on the forearm, the bipod will attach and tighten on to one of them.

Thanks Domino and Wintermute76. I am looking at the 10x mildot scopes, such as Bushnell 3200, and TASCO super sniper. Zeiss conquest 4.5-14 is also nice, but the price might be a little high.

Take a look at Sightron for your scope. You will be pleasantly surprised. It doesn't compare to my Zeiss but it is a lot better than a Burris, Leupold, and Bushnell that I own. I have the 6-24 SII.

Got a question. I am interested in the Harris bipod SM series. There are two bipods I cannot decide. One is S-LM 9" to 13" and anther is S-BRM 6"-9". I will shoot this rifle mainly from bench and prone position, but might in field later. Which bipod length should I go given this rifle's application?

Thanks,

I"ve got the Sightron SII 3-10x42 mil-dot for a scope.

I think the 6-9" is mostly for bench shooting, tho it works for me from prone.

IIRC Harris recommends the 9-13" for shooting from prone.
Easiest way to check would be to lay on the floor, and measure from the forearm to the floor. Should get you in the ballpark anyways.

I use a Sightron 4X16 mounted on Burris rings and bases. Set into a McMillian A-5 stock with Pach decelerator pad and Harris bipod.

Listen to wintermute76. His recommendations are the same as what I would recommend.

All 4 of my Savages wear Ken Ferrell Rails, Leupold QRW rings, and Harris swivel bipod with 6-9 inch legs. Scopes are Burris, Leupold and Nikon.
