Hi all,

I am new to this forum.

Just got a Ruger M77 Mark II. I was learning, or trying to learn with the instruction manual, how to disassemble the bolt for cleaning. Unfortunately, I twisted the bolt handle on the bolt after I removed the bolt stop and then the entire bolt, and it "clicked" in place and appeared to sort of lock up.

Now, the bolt handle is locked in a position of 90 degrees from the bolt sleeve and will not go back into the receiver.

From the manual, I honsetly cannot tell how to fix this, and I haven't even shot my rifle yet!

Can you all please help me through this?

Sincerely,

That happened to me once. I had to put my bolt on the edge of my work bench using a rag to protect the metal and push down on the shroud and twist at the same time to get it back in the right position.

Welcome to THR.

You will have to push the firing pin back up and turn the bolt back into place. Very hard to do for the first time. Becomes easy after.

If you look at the flat side of the bolt you will see where the pin turned into the bolt body.

You will see a flat spot that you can lean againt a board with some pressure and as you put pressure turn it to go back into the little holding notch.

I'm having a hard time to explain but if you understand what I'm saying a little you can do it.
