Please Tell Me About The S&W 619 I Bought Today.

I cut my teeth on a S&W model 19 almost 30 years ago. I had gotten away from revolvers for many years and am now just starting to appreciate them again.

Please share your experience and photos of this gun.

Oddly, the 619 replaced the 65 just several years ago - and is already out of the latest catalog! Basically, it and the adjustable sighted version, the 620 - which replaced the 66, have an L-frame, which is thicker at the frame front to fit a larger OD barrel and forcing cone. This alleviates a perceptual forcing cone etching problem the K-frames could suffer from with excessive light bullet/high velocity .357M's. The cylinder opening is taller, permitting the fitting of the 7-shot cylinder, which both the 619/620 are fitted with. The gripframes are identical to the K-frames - the grips are interchangeable between K & L frames. Where many of the K-frames, like the 65 & 66, came with rounded or squared two piece Uncle Mike's Combat grips, which enclose the backstrap, the 619 & 620, I believe, have the 'usual' Hogue monogrips, leaving that backstrap bare. They also have the newer two piece barrel/liner - and the partial lug of the 65/66 - a high mark for that, in my opinion.

I'd say you have a highly desireable holster .357M - with 7-shot capability. If it follows tradition, it's sights will be regulated for 158gr .357M's at 15yd or so. It's always fun trying to find what ammo hits coincident POI/POA at what distance. My first change would be the grips - some nice Ahrends cocobolo stocks - but that's me. Congratulations on a great firearm!

I bought a M619 a year and a half ago and I'm very pleased with it. It was my first revolver and I don't see myself selling it. I like the 7 rounds it will carry and it's a very accurate revolver.

BTW, even though it's not in the latest catalog it is still on the S&W WEB site. For some reason they aren't putting all their guns in the catalog like the M619 and 3" M64. The guns that are in the Law Enforcement and Military section of the WEB site aren't included in the catalog for some reason.

Well, I can tell you that if it's anything like my 620 (and it is) you'll grow to love it, and never want to sell it. It handles VERY well with full-house .357 Mag loads (we'll see how it does with some of my handloads....muahahahh), and allows you to DA full-house loads one handed with no problems. I like the Hogue that come with it, but to each their own. I'm looking into buying a holster for my 620 soon enough--it'll be a perfect farm/"always" gun (when I get my CCW, at least).

I love mine with a passion, and it's never getting sold (my 620). Replaced an old 65 after a mishap at the Smith factory regarding the previous weapon. I'm happier with the new one :)
