_________
I've mainly been using WWB, or S&B (230 - Ball) in my stock Springfield G.I. .... recently tried some PMC, and I noticed a definite difference, in the way it "felt". By that, I mean that it seems to be a bit "hotter" than what I had been using. The main thing I noticed, was the way it was ejecting. The PMC is tossing its brass a couple feet over my head, and to the right, and landing 4 to 6 feet behind me - consistently (excellent). With the Winchester and others, the empties would land only 2 -4 ft. behind - or to my right, or occasionally will drop one on my head, or at my feet. This was the case with both the factory extractor; and the Wilson that I just replaced it with. I tuned the extractor; smooth feed, no FTE's, or other problems. Could anyone enlighten me as to whether there is a significant difference in the loadings between PMC, and WWB or other brands .... also would anyone be aware of another brand of .45 - Ball, that is manufactured to similar specs as the PMC?
By "Hot", I wasn't specifically referring to the round's velocity .... possibly just chamber pressures (faster powder), which wouldn't necessarily result in a higher velocity. If this is the case, and it is just causing a slightly "stiffer" recoil - faster cycling - resulting in the "stronger" ejection I referred to .... I'm concerned that it might cause a bit more wear to the weapon. Because of this, I don't know if I'd want to use it (although I do like the more "positive" functioning characteristics). PMC, refers to itself as Military Spec" .... or at least they used to, back when the .45 was "G.I." & I'm wondering if loadings of the other brands are just 'softened up' a bit, for safety reasons (?) - or whatever.
BTW, with the PMC, I haven't noticed any signs of 'over pressure' .... i.e. primer flattening, cratering.
I know there isn't going to be a major difference in velocity, from brand, to brand (don't really care), however due to the "feel", and functional behavior using the PMC, there has to be a difference somewhere .... just trying to figure out exactly where it is.
...... Preciate any info
