I just found one of these at an LGS, it and 5 extra mags, two free passes to use their range, and 200rds of 22 mag for $500, I couldnt belive they didnt want like $600 just for the PMR 30, so I bought it.

But now i find myself thinking what practical application does this gun have? I mean its fun to shoot, but its not a duty gun, its not a ccw weapon, and i doubt you would want to hunt with it.

What would you guys use it for besides fun?

Not a bad deal!

practical application
huh?
to shoot 31 times making a really loud ""BOOM" noise each time

And there's no reason you couldn't eliminate squirrels with it, KT sells an optic mount.

It could be a defensive weapon to someone who can't handle recoil, with the right ammo mine is extremely reliable, and it is at least flat, making carry easy if you solve the grip height problem. I wouldn't tell my Grandma to go unarmed if she intended to drop a PMR30 in her purse ... I would buy her two boxes of Gold Dots optimized for short barrel guns, they're actually pretty impressive on reactive targets and reliable out of my PMR30.

In the end, though ... my PMR30 is a companion piece to the upcoming RMR30 and a fun gun to go blasting with ... it doesn't need a practical purpose, I wanted an interesting gun from a company I like, and I'm hoping for a .22LR conversion after the RMR30 hits the street. Even without a LR conversion, I can plink with the PMR30 and really good ammo for about the same cost per round as really crappy 9x19 ammo.

Midway, a few local places ... they're fairly new, but they're out there

Hornady has promised a competing load of similar design to their squishy-ball-in-a-HP line (FTX? CD? ... don't recall the acronym they're using) that I have not encountered in the wild yet, I'll order some when Midway has them in stock and test them out on various targets ... no reason not to stock a few types in case the supply of GDHP dries up or the price spikes again.

(it IS squash season, after all ... some pumpkins will be meeting their doom soon, I might even fill them with gelatin this year, or maybe I'll just stuff in newspaper and pour water to fill)

It was Critical Defense that Hornady was promising ... still not available on Midway.

Speer GDHP, if you order the 500-round pack you get the store display box, which I found amusing for some reason.

by the way your not kidding about the boom my 357 mag doesnt make as big a boom as this does, I had multiple people ask what on earth is that after there teeth stopped rattling. LOL

.22 Mag has one a heck of a crack, but not a boom, IMHO.

I have the Hornady .22 Mag ammo with the V Max in my NAA .22 Mag.

The PMR 30 should be a lot of fun.

That was a pretty good buy, about what I paid ($329 for the gun, $25/ea for mags, $11/box for ammo).

Function check all your mags. My PMR is extremely reliable after a minor mod I did, but one of my 4 mags just won't run. Haven't got around to exchanging it yet.

but its not a duty gun

No, it isn't.

its not a ccw weapon

Could be. It's certainly light enough. I don't advocate carry of anything less powerful than .380, but the PMR has such a capacity advantage, I would carry it. The noise and flash would certainly be intimidating on the other end.

i doubt you would want to hunt with it.

Small game with FMJ. The gun is plenty accurate.

somehow, my PMR30 seems LOUDER than the NAA mini
Interesting. Does being an auto make a difference I wonder? My 6" .22 Mag revolver seems like a crack to me as well.

Or perhaps your "boom" is my "crack". Different ears and perception and all. :)

I would love to hunt with it. Bushy tail season is coming up, and it would be great for someone looking for a bit of added challenge over a shotgun or scoped rifle.

It does look a bit odd with exposed screw heads all over the frame.
