My current pocket carry is my older S&W J-frame.

I'm thinking of changing to a modern mini 9mm for pocket carry.

Any ideas for a trustworthy and easy to pocket carry 9mm for a left-handed shooter?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks .........

Walther PPS is worth a look...

I'm in a similar situation and will be interested to see what you end up with!

They'll all work fine, the DAs with no safety, but you'll have to release the slides with your index finger. I don't see that as a major problem if you're currently using a DA wheel gun. I mean, would seem to me the slide release is a lot easier to get at than a cylinder release, not to mention using a speed loader left handed.

What MIGHT be a problem is the location of the mag release. Some may be reversible. That would be greatly advantageous I'd think as you wouldn't want to be accidentally dropping the slide just from gripping the grip. Something with a European heal catch type mag release would work. I have one that'd be GREAT for you, but it's not 9x19, it's a 9x18, a P64 Radom. I'm really not too familiar with what's available from Europe, either. I've often thought that the heal type release is FAR superior for a pocket auto, anyway, as there's less possibility of the mag being released when in the pocket, though I've not had that problem with my Kel Tec. I do have a Hogue Handall sleeve on it that is right up to the mag release button and the button has to be pressed below that Handall to drop the mag.

Although I wouldn’t call it a pocket pistol, the Walther PPS is worth a look as DaveCG suggested.

It’s a little long and a little heavy IMHO for a pocket pistol, but from what I‘ve read some guys carry it as one.

Mine made it through its 300 round break in without a hitch. The magazine release is ambidextrous and located on the lower trigger guard. It takes some getting used to, but I think it's a better setup for pocket carry as theres less chance of dropping your mag. Sling-shot the slide and you’ll get around the slide-stop being set up for a right hander.

Thanks for the info.

Any thoughts on the Kahr CM9, Kel-Tec PF9 or the Beretta Nano for lefty pocket carry?

I have read some good things about these mini 9mm pistols and I wonder if any left-handed shooters carry any of these as their pocket gun.

Thanks .........

From my armchair perspective, I would recommend the Beretta Nano. It's ugly but a really good gun.

Walther PPQ has a true ambidextrous slide release and mag release. It's not as small as some nines, but it's still easily carried.

When I had a PM9 I found it a little large for pocket carry. My Beretta BU9 is about the same. They work with some pants and not others. But...I found the same with my J frame so the CM9 or Beretta might work for you. The BU9 does not have a slide release and the mag release button is reversible so I think it might be good. I like my BU9 much more than any Kahr I owned.

Is the Beretta Nano on the market yet?

Does Uncle Mike's make a pocket holster for the Beretta Nano?

Thanks .........

FWIW:

I AM a lefty.

I carry a Ruger LC9 in a iwb holster.

Some people have issues with the "safety" aspects of the Ruger LC9 (mag disconnect/raised loaded indicator/external safety, left side only).

I don't.

I actually like the little raised "chamber loaded indicator, and the safety, BY DESIGN, is difficult to put on, or off..

I leave it off, all the time..

I've had a pile of pistols, some with mag disconnect, some without, never gave a thought about it being a positive or negative factor either way. I don't carry a back up magazine and the mag in the LC9 fits firmly, so my gun always has a full mag in the mag well, and one in the chamber.

The LC9, again by design, has a lonnng trigger pull. No problem, all of my snubbys have a long trigger pull.. The long trigger pull just assures me I'm not going to fire the pistol unless I really mean to..

A safety factor to my mind.

I have a very nice HK P2000sk lacking the "controversial" safety factors of the Ruger LC9, but I can conceal carry the LC9 so much easier than the fine sk that the sk stays in the gun safe, and the LC9 makes the trips.

I've found the LC9 to be surprisingly accurate at any reasonable self defense distance (for me 7 yards)..

Just another option.

No offense, and if you disagree with my thinking, you might be right. Either way I'm too old to argue about it. ;)

Best Wishes,

Jesse

The Uncle Mike's/Blackhawk # 4 works perfectly. The BU9 (I'm too old to talk about my N...) is selling fast at Cabelas, Gander Mountain and Academy Sports (where I got mine). But here is my preferred way to carry it.

And ~ if you are considering the high end Rohrbaugh, or Kimber Solo, mosey over to the Boberg Arms (www.bobergarms.com) forum and check out his newly released Boberg XR9-S..

Unique and unusual, but the first reviews coming in from owners are pretty impressive..

Over the Christmas holidays I believe there will be one or two of the gun mags doing testing and reviewing of the new XR9-S, so keep an eye out for 'em.

Just another, high end, 9MM option.. :D

Good Shopping.

I've been carrying a PM9 for about four years. Never had any kind of problem. It will shoot 3-4" groups, off hand at 25 yards without really trying. I don't think you can go wrong with the Kahr. Keep shootin'

I just went in to look, however, I ended up buying a mini 9mm at my town's gun shop.

And the winner is .........

Beretta Nano

In my opinion, the Beretta Nano was the best for my personal lefty pocket carry based on looking at the various other mini 9's the gun store had available.

So far, my first impressions of the Beretta Nano include ........

1 --- great feel in my hand and seems to be very well made

2 --- fits well in my front pocket

3 --- good price (about $400 "out the door")

Thanks for the info .........
