looking for feedback from owners of these 2 pistols i am considering. 1st one is sig 928 which ican buy for $619, SECOND IS KAHR CM9 for $359. i know the sig is single action and the kahr is dao. i would like to hear how reliability has been fro owners of the pistols thanks

My Kahr CW9 was great until the front frame rail broke, then I found their customer support lacking.

My SIG 938 is the most pleasant of all the sub-compacts I've tried so far. I like that you can cycle the slide to load the pistol with the safety on. I've not had it long enough to see if it holds up better than the Kahr did (~6000 rounds, in three years), but the customer support couldn't possibly be worse than the EAA-class support I'm getting from Kahr :(

I've had the CM9, but not the 938. The CM9 was great really, very nice for the money and super reliable and nicely accurate, and I think it's also smaller than the 938, and less expensive too. You could buy some night sights for it and still be quite a ways under the price of a 938. But, handle both so YOU know which you like best. The trigger on the Kahr is smooth, but it's long, hence the DAO.

I've heard others with a 938 that really like them, so no doubt they're a nice gun it's just up to you if it's worth nearly $300 more.

I have a PM9 and it's been great in terms of its reliability and utility. Very smooth DA trigger and its overall compactness and ergonomic design really make this a decent choice in terms of being a true 9mm. pocket auto.

Both are great and reliable. I just sold a CW9 and bought the P938. Love it. I shoot better with the 1911 SAO set-up and to me after reliability, accuracy is king. I held it next to a CM9 when I bought the Sig and they are same size. You'll have to answer if you like SAO or DAO. As far as DAO's go, the Kahr is a nice shooting pistol.

I also own the Kahr - as long as you do not use the 7 round mags and stick with the 6 round ones, reliability is perfect. LOOOOONG trigger pull, but with no external safeties, it is what it is. Hides well in my pocket. If I was going to holster it on a belt, I'd go with something different, like a G26, but for pocket carry, it is light and accurate enough

My CM9 has been flawless. 100% reliable with a wide variety of ammunition, and surprisingly soft-shooting for such a small/light 9mm. Hard to beat for the price.

I have used a cm9 as a pocket pistol for 4 years. Have right at 2000 rounds throught with zero problems. also have to other in the r0tation with like round count and no problems with them ether.

Ruger LC-9

Ruger LC-9 Perfect-I went from a Beretta PX-4 Sub-compact 9mm and glad I did.. EDC FIREARM OF THE YEAR IN 2013,I completely understand why!

Is the 938 large enough to holster on a belt? Ive been thinking about getting something smaller, myself. (EDC an sr9 currently)

I have a p238, but it's not big enough to holster.

I too am very happy with my CM9. I've had it since shortly after it was first made available. Zero issues, eats anything I've fed it including my soft reloads.

I had a kahr. The deciding factor on these two is the trigger.

Kahr - long, heavy trigger pull. Feels like a nicely tuned DAO revolver. I liked it and it was reliable. I just don't like DAO trigger pulls when there is a single action style in a similar package.

p938 - Single action with a safety. Better trigger, if you prefer a 1911/mustang style trigger. I know someone who's put a couple thousand rounds through his without incident and internet reviews seem to lean towards similar experiences. I'm actually caving in buying one Friday, myself. :)

Basically the most important question between those two is your preference for tiggers and manual of arms. Those aren't two I'd cross shop.

So how is the recoil on the 938? The Kahr CM9 isn't bad at all. I've tried the P238 in 380auto and felt it was a very soft shooter, but 9mm out of a gun this small I would expect it to be Keltec like, which would be a real turnoff for me.

Anyone shot both and can compare?

PS. The CM9 can fit in a pocket without a problem and has been 100% reliable. I have found the long trigger pull makes follow up shots slower. But it is very accurate.

I have, and I felt the p938 was softer shooting than any other pocket sized 9 I've tried...kahr included. WAY better shooting than the kel tec. With the pinky extension, it really isn't all that bad and it was dare I say...enjoyable. It is ever so slightly harder shooting than the p238, but just barely enough that I don't think I'd notice without shooting them back to back. I ruled out the 938 based on the same assumption, but renting it proved me wrong.

Recoil is incredibly subjective, so my free advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it. :)

The 938 is just barely larger than the p238. For me pocket carry is the worst. I don't like it. I'd only do it in dress slacks and khakis on rare occasions. It fits for me when I tested it with a pocket holster. I prefer to carry at 3:30 ish IWB or appendix IWB.

I have found the long trigger pull makes follow up shots slower. But it is very accurate.

I experienced similar results. Learning the DAO style trigger through practice and training will correct that...but everything else I shoot is a different trigger system so it makes since for me to go with a different handgun.

Two quality guns, it's a coin toss, depends on if the user is accustomed to single or double action guns. I carry a PM9 , only because of the pocket carry aspect. I like a longer revolver type trigger on a pocket gun, but am looking at sigs again now, along with sub compact 1911's. As long as the gun goes bang every time. The glocks I feel the need for a holster, not just a remora pocket holster , but one with a more positive hold inside the waistband. It's difficult to go back to larger guns when you get used to pocket carry.
I never would have envisioned it 40+ yrs ago when guns were just too large to do this, " other than a snub nose inside the waistband, or a belly band, but now, "for self defense" it is just so much easier to blend in, and still have a formidable weapon.

Wow,

Thanks for the info surfer. Very interesting. I will have to take a closer look at the P938.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I tried the kahr. I liked it, a whole bunch! But other options exist with a SAO trigger and a thumb safety. I typically carry a 1911 so the platform choice is a no-brainer for me.

I was also dead set on the p238 until I heard opinions I trust on the p938. I'm also all set to load for 9mm so that's another no-brainer since size/price/reliability/carry-ability are similar.

There is no amount of internet opinion that can make up for trigger time. :)

pocket 9

thanks for all the input.wanted to let you guys know i bought both. fired both today no failures with either. shot 200 rounds each,115 grn fmj,124 grn fmj,147 grn hst and 124 grn +p jhp. both equally acurate after 1 st mag.recoil was minimal with both except with the +p black hills jhp. surprised of being equally acurate with both considering the difference in triggers. need to shoot these some more before carring. after today i would be confident carrying either one. need small pistol for carrying during our summer here in florida.

For anyone else that happens to read this, Sig is offering a special deal to some dealers. The gun is not on their website. The Sig p938 sport 13 and sig p238 sport 12. It comes with sig branded hogue wrap around grips, nitride finish, stainless controls, sig lite rears and a TFO tritium/fiber optic combo front. Best of all, it is one of the lower price models AND it comes with an extra extended mag. Pretty awesome.

I also found a guy that makes some really nice custom grips in cocobolo, ironwood and others. Eagerly awaiting those and I'll post up a write up if anyone is interested. :)
