Pocket Carry...ain't workin'...

Thanks

Thanks for the info, guys.

As I said, I've got a very good belt holster for the 1911; a High Noon Slide Guard, suede lined, with a matching magazine carrier and a super thick quality gunbelt.

For the snubby, I'll be buying a pocket holster this week after I get paid. In the meantime, I found that stuffing a sock into the pocket serves both to keep the gun upright and break up the outline. Now, it looks like I've got a sock in my pocket, but it doesn't look like I've got a gun in there, so it'll do for the next few days. :D

Instead of wearing dorky convealment vests, try cool, outdoorsy fleece vests from Sierra Trading Post.

Maybe come winter. Right now, it's a touch warm for a vest of any kind, I think.

One of the reasons I bought the snubby is that it's so easy to conceal with regular clothes. With full sized handgun you really do have to dress around it. A little snub gives you more options.

For what its worth, I am able to conceal my 642 in my daily work attire pockets. Dress slacks are light material compared to jeans and dont lend themselves to concealment very well.

Still, with either a Desantis Nemesis or Galco Pocket Horsehide, it does very well.

I pocket carry a 642(also lefty, not that it matters)..I use a Desantis Nemesis..I sweat like Mike Tyson at spelling Bea..and have had no problems so far....it seems to repel the sweat.it's made from some kind of rubber. My biggest problem is where to carry a reload. My wallet is in my right front pocket.....often I carry a speedloader in a vest pocket, but one thing I like about pocket carry is that I don';t need to wear a vest...I'm thinking about trying to carry one in my back pocket.....good luck......

POCKET CARRY HOLSTER

I recently purchased a 642 and carry it in a Galco Pocket Holster made of Horsehide this baby will last forever and it won't print in the pocket.

Well I take it from your post that you are left handed (8 O'Clock, left hand pocket). If so then the Hip Grip and Clip-Draw won't work. You may want to try the uber-simplistic OSS string holster for IWB carry of the 642. I'll try to find a link or old thread that describes it better, but in the mean time..........Take a loop of 550 cord about six inches long, tie a knot about 1.5" (or belt width) in from each end, thread loops onto belt and tuck excess string into waist band, poke barrel through loop so front of cylinder rests against it. This will keep the gun from sliding down into your pants and your belt provides the retention. Think of it as improved Mexican carry.

Here is my crappy paint drawing of the concept:

I carried a 340PD in a Desantis Nemesis for a while and liked it.
The SmartCarry worked great too, in my opinion. When I carry the Kahr PM9, that's where it goes.
Of course, typically, I pocket carry a Kel-Tec 3AT in a Nemesis most of the time. It disappears and is super easy to carry.
The key to pocket carrying your snubby is a good holster, and deep/roomy pockets.
Good luck.

I love my 442/642 for carry. I think it is pushing the limits in size as far as what is carriable in the front pocket. That said I've tried several front pocket holsters, because I'm looking for something that will work, plus be minimal in size because the J-frame is big enough to begin with.

Nemesis-too bigh, too much extra material and kind of "flimsy".

K&D and RJ Hedley-good quality, but I still felt it was too much material.

Kramer-WINNER. Quality, and very compact. It was VERY expensive, at about $90 shipped. But I'm gonna use it forever.

Good Luck!

Get loose fit or Relax fit Jeans. Classic fit Levis will not work. My days of tight jeans are long gone:(

I like the Nemesis, too. I wear shorts most of the time when I am not at work. I have found that my gun conceals very well in the large cargo pockets on the side and it is much easier to draw from a sitting position.

Wow, I did not know that you.....

had to quit wearing jeans when you turned 50.........I just put a folded hanky on the outside of my Kel Tec when I carry it in my front pocket. The 13 dollar jeans they sell at Sam's and Costco have rather roomy front pockets. They are relaxed fit too and heavier material than your usual Levi's........chris3

I pocket carry almost evey day. I have found that jeans and flat front pants don't conceal and make the draw difficult. I prefer pleated dockers or some other slack with a pleated front.

I also find a 24 ounce pistol too heavy to pocket carry. I prefer instead to keep it closer to 16 or less. This means something like the airwieght J-frames, Kahr polymers or Colt pocketlites.

Cabela's hiking pants and a Uncle Mike's or DeSantis cheap holster work fine for a J frame or PM-9.

High noon's a good brand. I've got one of their products for tucked IWB carry of my Kahr PM-9. Of course, tucking the shirt is optional with the holster, but if it fits within your definition of style it might be worth looking into.

For in the pocket I've used the Mitch Rosen PSF (pocket softy) and the Milt Sparks PCH and PCH-R (in fact the PCH-M for magazines is neat for offside pocket).

IWB I use a Rosen WKM, it is a Workman tuckable - I often don't tuck, but wear a cover garment instead. It's nice to have the tuckable option though.

8 ball in the corner pocket!!

hbeleatherworks.com - Unlike a lot of other people, I do NOT have a drawer full of holsters. I have one Alessi Talon, and two HBE's, and that's it. This is an incredibly comfortable holster, I carry at 3:00 with a fairly tight pair of jeans and a Spec-Ops Better BDU belt, and even my wife can't tell if I'm carrying or not. This is good, because my wife doesn't like guns, and she rags on me if she thinks I have it one me.... Sigh :banghead:

As far as pocket carry, just get a bigger gun and make all the girls wonder what you have in there!! :D

My 642 disappears into the front pocket of my Carhartt (B11) carpenter pants. For summertime carry, I've found Patagonia stand up shorts to conceal well (with a holster), though any baggy cargo-type shorts should work.

Speaking of holsters, I can happily recommend two:
On a budget: No question -- Mika. Good product, great customer service,
For a bit more money: Andrew's custom leather. Very nice pocket holsters.

Both conceal very well. Good luck

Cheapest pocket holster is the one made by Uncle Mikes. There are a lot on the market that don't print.

Try JC Penney Jeans

I don't know your age, build, or taste in clothes. I am 63 and have a lean frame with a large gut in my older age. I wear a J C Penney brand of jeans...St. John's Bay brand and their Easy Fit model of standard cotton blue jeans. The jeans are probably marketed with old farts like me in mind that are no longer lithe and lean. I think they are comfortable and have nice big front pockets. FYI I wear suspenders if that has any bearing. I could picture hiding a small handgun pretty darn well in my front pocket. The jeans run about $20. Moe US Navy 1960-67

It doesn't get any simpler than a light weight S&W J frame in an Uncles Mikes pocket holster carried in the strong side front pocket and a Safariland c-1 speedloader and whatever else in the weak side front pocket. It'll be 105 degrees here today in central Texas and these are the accessories to have when you are sweating like Mike Tyson at a spelling bee(thanks TonyB)!!!!

Carthartt "relaxed fit" jeans. I've carried my Airlite J frame in my pocket without a holster for years now, never have been discovered. +1 on the dockers too.
