First of all, let me just say this:

FLORIDA CCW AND CARRY LAWS ARE COMMUNISTS' REVENGE !!!

It's so friggin hot down here (Fort Lauderdale) that concealing H&K P2000 should get me at least nominated for the noble peace prize! AKA no open carry! I'm a skinny guy, so concealing anything strapped to my belt (IWB) is a project in the morning just by it self.

To get to the point... I need a small handgun, something I can put in my pocket. I've looked at Walther PPK/S. What are you thoughts about this gun? I also looked at Kel-Tek, but way to ugly for my taste:D

How about a small revolver? 5 shooter .357 ?

What about the caliber? .380 vs .320 ? Stopping power versus .40 I carry right now?

Please Help!
Flame Away!

makarov

cant go wrong with one of these. very powerful 9mm and very small. ammo is cheap and available.

Maks are fairly heavy as they are all-steel guns. First time I hefted one, I was surprised - and that was after hearing how heavy they are for months. I'm not so sure they'd pocket carry well unless you've got a tight belt or you like your pants sagging.

Kel-Tec P11?

S&W 642. 5 shot, 38spl and 15oz's unloaded. I would take it over a .380 any day and it can realistically fit in a pocket... not mention it won't get all gummed up over time thanks to its enclosed hammer... it's small size, good stopping power not to mention it's almost absolute reliability can't be wrong, IMO. Check it out. I love mine.

Bersa

A lot of people like the Bersa 380 Thunder .. It's smallish (makarov type size) , it's availible, it's affordable ( around $220 , give or take a little ). I use it as a backup gun, or when there simply isnt any way to conceal my .45

Have you considered a Seecamp .32 or .380 or an NAA Guardian in .380 (made by Kahr)? A S&W 637 Airweight is pretty light also (15oz) but nowhere near as small as the Seecamp. The Seecamp could be slipped into any pocket or put in a wallet holster that makes it print just like a small wallet in your back pocket. You will never regret buying a Seecamp. They are wonderful. They are like a piece of art that can fire a bullet.

I have a PPK and I would not consider it a pocker gun. It is smaller than the PPK/S though (despite what the website says the grip is about .5" longer on the PPK/S)

What about the Taurus snubbie in .357, the Bersa .380 or a Walther PPK/S? I've shot a Taurus and used to own a 1950s PPK/S, both were pretty darn nice.

I second the Kahr, Kel-tec, and Bersa recommendations. Looks should take a back seat to portability in this category. If something sub-9mm is acceptable to you check out the P3AT

What's the advantage of having the hammer covered in a 5/6 shooter?
Covered hammers where originally designed for when the gun was fired from inside a jacket pocket (hence the name pocket pistol). It kept jacket material or other items from coming between the hammer and the firing pin and causing the gun to not fire.
The spur on the hammer dosnt get caught in the pocket when you go to draw
That is the reason for spurless hammers like the Ruger SP101. :)

Yeah!!! I actually knew an answer for once. :D

Definately take a hard look at the seecamp. There isn't any pistol out there that is easier to conceal bar none. If you don't like the caliber, then I opt for a S&W 37. There are still some NIB ones out there without the lock and are very nice.

My first pocket gun was an AMT Backup in .45acp. It was rather heavy and its only sight system was a groove down the top of the slide. However, for up close within a few feet its 5+1 rounds of .45acp should stop an attacker in his boots.

From there I added a Taurus 850 .38spl to by collection. It was quite a bit lighter than the AMT and had slightly better sights (rear groove w/ fromt sight blade) but it only had 5 rounds of less. Many find the .38spl round itself to be a drawback. Hollowpoints lack penetration and ball ammo, which does penetrate better, lacks expansion. Personally, to achieve the best performance I would use both (3 hollowpoint, 2 ball or vise versa).

I sold both of these not long after getting myself a Kahr PM40. The Kahr has 5+1 (or 6+1 with extrended mag) of .40S&W, is lighter than both and has a much better sight system. It seemed the perfect pocket gun but it has a problem not reliably feeding rounds so I sent it back to be reworked. If it comes back and operates flawlessly I would view it as one of the best pocket carry options available.

Beauty is as beauty does. The P-3AT goes anywhere a wallet would go, and 7 rounds of .380acp is not a bad load.

PlayboyPenguin,

Is that stainless???

It appears to be blued with plastic.:uhoh:

I don't know what's up with people's tastes these days.:neener:

Edit:
Seecamp all the way. Either .32 or .380, same size gun offered in two calibers. Plus it is 100% stainless steel.
Okay, maybe it's the lighting.

I would vote a Smith and Wesson Model 442 snub in .38 special. Small, concealable, and 5 shot. It goes for around $450 retail. Its length is about 6.31", and its barrel length is about 1.87". Heres a pic:

If that doesnt work for you, i would choose a NAA .32 ACP guardian, which is just as good IMO. It has a magazine capacity of 6 rounds, and a height of 3.3", and a length of 4.4". Trigger pull is 13.0 lbs, and it goes for about $400 retail. I would say this one looks the coolest.

It really depends on how much you want to spend, and if you want a revolver or autoloader.

A bit pricey...

...but I love my Rohrbaugh R9. 6+1 of 9mm love, in just 12.8 ounces. Perfect for backup, or when you can't tuck something with a little more throw-weight away.

Sorry you don't like the Kel-Tecs. P32 is my "always" gun. But I'll also vote for a Kahr PM9.

Java,

It is solid stainless. That is just glare making it look dark. This little moster seems as if it was somehow carved out a single black of stainless steel. Words cannot do a Seecamp justice. It is a beauty. Not too many cratsmen like Mr. Seecamp out there.
