To all those with supportive comments thanks, but those who do this are just doing our jobs. As for me I'm only sorry I've only been able to participate in one of the three FALCON ops. Despite the extra hours it's worth it.

I'm especially sad I missed the most recent one since it specifically targeted sex offenders. Hopefully next time one of these comes up, I will be able to participate again.

I'm very much in favor of keeping sex offenders off the streets, but does someone know what the constitutional basis for the aforementioned federal law is?
The basis is Congress' authority to regulate interstate and foreign commerce.

On July 27, 2006, the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-248) was signed into law. The Act provides that the “Attorney General shall use the resources of Federal law enforcement, including the United States Marshals Service, to assist jurisdictions in locating and apprehending sex offenders who violate sex offender registration requirements”.

The new law also established a new federal crime (18 USC § 2250) which subjects sex offenders who knowingly fail to register (or to keep their registration current) to up to ten years imprisonment in the event that they travel in interstate or foreign commerce.

Thus, in addition to assisting state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement authorities in locating and apprehending unregistered sex offenders, the U.S. Marshals Service will also work with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and the U.S. Attorneys Offices to investigate potential violations of 18 USC § 2250.

The impression is that Operation Falcon is one of those federally-funded overtime fiestas, similar to the holiday "dui checkpoints", that are eagerly anticipated by officers and agencies as a source of extra income.
hammer4nc, I don't really know or care how the OT got paid for the state and local guys, but I can tell you these aren't some cushy deals that yield a couple extra hours of OT. These guys were out working their butts off, and probably only had enough time off each day to get a few hours sleep, and take a shower before getting back at it again. The time I did one of these my shortest day was 15 hours.

Further, the feds, including but not limited to; the Deputy Marshals, FBI, ATF, DEA, HUD/OIG, SSA/OIG, USPIS, NCIS, ICE, USSS, Mint Police, DS, VA/OIG, DOJ/OIG, USFWS, IRS-CI, US Probation, AFOSI, FPS, etc, etc, did NOT get paid ANY overtime.

Truth???

Probably the last time someone from the government told the people the truth was sometime before the Civil War. So, you expect us to believe you?

Let me speculate further into the future: When you, and your government comrades come for our guns, you won't be getting overtime?
