Hey all,

WARNING! This video may be considered graphic by some. If you have never seen an animal shot, it may be disturbing for you.

Also, let's not make this thread about his wrongful arrest. A person cannot be legally arrested for filming an officer of the law, this is a known fact. This thread is about whether or not the officer was justified *solely* in shooting the dog.

I came across this video while scrolling through Facebook. In the video, a man is arrested after putting his (Rottweiler?) dog in his vehicle. After being arrested, the dog jumps out of the car and lunges at the officers. The officers seemingly give the dog *several* chances to back off and even allow the owner to chime in. However, the dog lunges at an officer who (unsurprisingly) fires for effect.

It's sad that the dog had to go, but I think the officer did the right thing. There were other officers around, as well as bystanders that could have been harmed by a raging and potentially rabid dog. A lot of folks online feel the opposite because the dog was "protecting it's owner". What do you guys think? Justifiable self-defense?

I'm curious as to what your opinions are.

It all depends if the arrest was lawful. It doesn't look to me like the guy was obstructing anybody, and that it was more about the cops not wanting to be filmed.
