So I got bored tonight and decided to start polishing some parts of the slide on my Sigma .40

Currently I've polished the flat parts on the barrel and the raised portion on the left side of the slide. Pics attached and more to come as the project progresses.
Sorry for the quality, the light is bad tonight and one of the shots was taken with a cell phone.

Since you're polishing..

Polish the sear and the striker assembly. Makes a WORLD of difference in the trigger feel!! I love these guns, have owned both the .40 and the 9mm..

Well, as yet I've been nervous about taking apart the slide, it'd be the first time with this type/form of gun. I've been trying to find a video on this but everything I've found so far has been taken down for one reason or another

The trigger is HEAVY, but it's smooth and consistent, and always breaks at the same point. I would love to lighten it up some though.

It's very easy to do. To lighten the trigger a little, you can remove the pigtail spring at the bottom of the trigger assembly, which is removed by a pin, if I remember correctly. (I do not have the gun sitting in front of me) This will allow you to remove a pin that keeps the spring in place. This will drastically improve the feel of the trigger. While you are at it, polish the sear to a mirror finish and it will be slick and clean to pull! I know that there's a few websites out there and a couple of videos. Good luck!!

Thanks for the advice. I need to remove the extractor (?) from the slide anyway as I have yet to polish that side of the slide and I don't want to polish the black finish off the extractor clip thing ;)

A polished Sigma? Seriously?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my ownership of it and did work on the action in order to make it a smoother, lighter pull - and that involved some polishing. But polishing the slide of a Sigma? Is it visually appealing enough for you to put in that kind of pure aesthetic work into it?

I like the way it looks. Is there something wrong with that? I mean, I know it's not a 1911 or something like that, but why not a little shine? It's not like I'm trying to be all "matte black cerakoted" mall ninja or something.

Thanks shadowbob, I'm happy with it, although I do need to go over it one more time to get a few scuffs I missed with the lower grits. It sort-of looks brushed almost. As I get more time to work on it though, I'm certain it'll be a mirror polish after awhile.

I apologize if I came across condescending, that was not my intent. After rereading what I posted I can see how that came across like that. It was more curiosity that malicious intent, but it is the internet and my facial expressions, tone, etc., are not accounted for.

I owned a Sigma SW9VE for a while and enjoyed it thoroughly, but it was more of a utilitarian enjoyment than a cosmetic one. In my head I felt I got one over on the GLOCK fellows because it was a rock-solid pistol for close to half the cost, it had nothing to do with actually being an aesthetically-pleasing pistol. That was my intention with my question, not to say anything elitist.

It's no problem, I understand where you're coming from. I just like my gun to be "my gun" you know what I mean? Put my little stamp

I like polished pistols too, I built this pair to be as identical as possible, then polished the lower gun of this pair for fun. I like it and I'll probably do the other as well. For the curious, they are Caspian frame/slide, Schuemann barrels, Brown, Wilson, etc. small parts. All stainless.

That looks gorgeous, almost like liquid metal... Mine isn't quite there yet, but with some more work it won't be too far off :)

I did the same thing to a Taurus Millenium. Gave the gun a semi-customized look to it. And I had fun doing it. Enjoy.
