Some have opined in other threads that the .357sig is not very popular and will not ever be much more popular than now. Some even think it will eventually go away. What is your opinion? I personally have never owned one but may in the future.

I made a mistake with the last question. It should have said:

I have never owned a 357sig pistol and will probably never buy one in the future.

As the author of one of these threads I think the 357 Sig is an awsome round. For disclosure purposes my duty weapon is a Glock 35, w/ a KKM 357 Sig barrel. 5" barrel 15 rounds of 357 Sig per magazine ( I carry 3 total +2 30 rounders in my "go bag") Bring on the zombie hords, Im ready...

Long live 357 sig

i've ben interested in owning one myself, but i usually stay away from any round that isn't as available as the 9mm, 40 and 45acp. i owned a 41ae baby eagle and getting ammo was like pulling teeth. i'd rather be able to go to walmart and buy as much as i want rather than keep up with spent brass for reloading.

.357 Sig is not int he same boat as .41AE, and the last time I was in a Wal-Mart the only two types of pistols ammo that was on the shelf was a box or two of .45 PDX and a couple boxes of .357 WWB. It's no longer less available or more expensive than .40 or .45. Probably easier to find than 9mm at times.

most gun/sporting good stores i've been in never have more than a couple boxes at the most of 357sig, 10mm, 9x18 and even 45gap. i've asked the owners before about the guns and ammo in these calibers and was told they don't keep many of the guns or ammo in stock is because it just doesn't sell.

I voted that I own .357 SIG pistols and will probably not buy another, I still buy and shoot .357 SIG as often as I can. MY fav is the SIG P226, I use both .40 and the .357 in it, with the .40 S&W it shoots great, with the .357 SIG it shoots even better. Any feed issues that a .40 S&W might have are virtually non existant with the .357 SIG, not that a SIG P226 has any problems. As far as a dying caliber, more law enforcement agencies are using 357 SIG every year.

I have an HK USP compact sig and LOVE shooting it.It goes where I do every day.I don't see the need for another one as this one fits my hand perfectly.I can't possibly see one feeling any better than this.

I was introduced to the 357SIG round by a US Air Marshall. Seeing that I owned a SIG P220 Compact, he insisted I shove 2 boxes of 125gr Speer Gold Dots through his rusty, well-worn SIG P229. By the time I finished the second mag I was hooked. By the end of the 4th mag I was calculating what it would take to get my reloading equipment set up to reload the caliber. Once I had a grasp on the reloading aspect, I started looking for a firearm. I found a used SIG P239 w/night sights and 2 mags; one of them had never been used. If it wasn't for the smilies on the barrel I wouldn't have known the piece had been fired at all. I have since purchased 4 "used" police mags from Top Gun Supply. Those "used" mags had never been out of the plastic baggies. The opportunity to bascially have a 357magnum in a semi-auto format was very appealing. Because I reload, ammo availablility and price are no problemo. :neener: I plan to add another piece in this caliber to my safe. For me, the P239 is a dandy carry piece. I use an IWB holster and a Nemesis pocket holster (I live in FL and wear cargo shorts more often than not. Ah, such is life.)

My duty weapon is an issued Glock 31. I do like the 357sig round , but I do not prefer it for several reasons: The bullets set back very easily, this causes a dangerous over pressurization that can cause a Kb. I have been issued this G31 for about a year now and I already have 6 rounds that have set back. I have also discovered several Training FMJs that have set back. I don't fire the ones that set back, I just remove them and replace them with a fresh round. The 357sig is also slightly more complicated to reload. I have heard others say its not, but from what I have read, it is.
Right now, a 50 round WWB of 357sig at walmart is $25. I can get 100 rounds of WWB 45acp for $35 and 50 rounds of federal 40 cal for $14.
It is an excellent round that shows good barrier penetration and street results, but it is too expensive for my tastes.

When I find a 357 SIG barrel for my M40A1...

SAI had the 357 Sig barrels for the M40-A1 for $250 last week. I'm not sure how many they had available but they were listed on their website.

What is the difference between the choices on lines 4 & 6?

I presume 4 is you've owned one but don't and don't plan on getting another. So 6 is you've never owned one, and don't plan on getting one.

Anyway I voted never had one, never get one. I just don't really see the point in this cartridge. If I want a 357, I'd get an Magnum, if I wanted a 40 S&W I'd get a 40 S&W this falls into the gap.

It's marginally more powerful (by lbsft/f) than the 40 S&W, but not as powerful as the 357, and lets not forget the 10mm Auto which is more powerful than the 357's. To me the 357 SIG is a solution looking for a problem, if you want reduced recoil get a 40 S&W, if you want full power get a 357 Magnum or a 10mm.

I have a drop-in barrel for my XDm40 in 357SIG. Tried it for the first time a week ago and it shot better groups than my 40 does. Was very nice recoil using same spring & rod with only difference noted was the cases fell closer to me and it hit a little to the right of where the 40's do. If I can learn how to regulate the barrel to the same point of impact I may just make my XDm a 357 SIG with a spare 40 S&W barrel!

Have only shot my own handloads as no factory ammo has been available at a reasonable price locally. It is a little more problematic in that I have to lube the cases with my current setup. But it costs no more to load than my 40 does.

Regards,

TB

Right now I have a Glock 31. I have a SIG 226 in 22lr that I have ordered the upper half in 357 SIG. I am also looking for a Springfield XD in 357.
This round will stick around. Everybody wrote off the 10mm and it has made something of a comeback. 357 should be the same.

I do not currently own a 357sig pistol and will probably never buy one in the future.

Its not that I don't like the 357 Sig round, I just have no use for it currently. I already use 9mm or .38 spcl for CCW, and can employ my 10mm if I need more juice. I think the 357 Sig is really a great concept, and would consider it if I was starting my collection from scratch.

I dont really see the need for the round, I could just shoot 9mm +P and carry more of them in a mag as well.

JMHO:eek:

My brother loves his Glock 31. Can't argue with the ballistics for self defense. A few other people I respect swear by the round. I would own this cal.

Expensive?? yes which is why .40 looks better to me

357sig is a great round for LE due to it's penetration capabilities. however, for this same reason it's not for me. i prefer to avoid over-penetration for personal/home defense as much as possible.

not to mention the noise, blast, and cost of the 357 sig isn't very appealing to me either.

MetalMan52. Please read my intro post where I explained that I made a mistake. Option 6 is supposed to be just like 5 but you will never buy one.

You didn't have a choice for "own more than one". I own two and I'm looking at a third.

I own one .357 Sig M&P and it really does not offer anything more than my M&P40, M&P9c, M&P9 Pro Series, my 1911 .45acp's, S&W .357 Mag or S&W .44 Mag just to name a few.

It is just another caliber to keep stocked in my inventory.

I voted I own one but would not buy another which isn't quite true I don't own one but carry one everyday we are issued sigs in .357. I perfer the 9mm for my personnel own weapon. If I was to change calibers in my personnel weapon I might go with the .357 have no real problem with it and like it better then the .40

be safe
