Anyone going to buy a magpul masada when it's released early next year?

Please explain why or why not. (broke and anti-Scary Black Rifle people need not respond

Nope, too much plastic for my taste not to mention that it seems to be another answer in search of a question.

Of course, I am broke as well but I digress. :uhoh:

It is now being produced not by Magpul but by Bushmaster as the ACR. I will not be buying one as it will be fresh on the market and I will let others get the first production rifles with all of the first production bugs. Maybe in a year or two if I don't already have an AR and an AK by then. I'm also waiting for the platform in .308 as the current one will not support it.

I won't buy one, because given my experience with Bushmaster products I have zero faith that the rifle will be produced properly, and not be riddled with cheap shortcuts.

I too am leery about 1st Gen new systems. I'll wait......

But at the same time, it doesn't fill a need in my current inventory. So I will not be waiting with baited breath t get my hands on one.

So i guess it wont be ready in august like originally announced.:confused:by the way,all this gun is in reality is the hk sl8 or g36,has almost the exact same bolt, carrier, trigger guard, gas piston,i saw close up pictures of the parts, looks identical to my sl8 parts.all they did is re invent the wheel.its funny how stoner had this in the ar180 almost 40 years ago & it took this long to realize how good it was.

Kinda waiting to see some reviews by real people and take a first hand look at the thing myself. I have a Sig556 which in my mind is a competitor to the ACR.

This is just a personal thing - but every photo I have seen of someone holding one made the rifle look like a big ugly lump of badly colored plastic.

It looks big, heavy and ungainly.

Vaporware.

Until I can buy one it doesn't exist.

How good do you think Bushmaster can build an HK knock off?

Designed from folks who have never designed a rifle.

A lot of questions, and the answer keeps getting pushed down the road.

BO will probably solve their problem for them anyway.

Go figure.

Fred

No.

I have a modified Bushmaster 20" HBAR AR15 already filling that role and see no need to replace it. It's been working just fine for me for over 4K rounds.

Every time I see that rifle, I get a bad case of the "I wanna's."

A gun buddy bought one of those piston driven 308 AR rifles (LWRC?) with the rails and the ACOG and all sorts of things, and when I held it I lusted after it badly. I felt that my old reliable HK was outdated, and cheesy.

A few days later, my gun buddy was HOT! Apparently his rifle would not fire milsurp ammo! He calls the company and asks WTH? They tell him their rifle will only shoot "match" ammo. He had also ordered up and received the piston driven 223 rifle by the same company, and was in the process of getting it all set up. In a fit, he sold both rifles at a loss and says he will not do business with such a company.

I opened my safe and looked at the HK sitting there with newfound appreciation.

While I wanna Masada very much, I probably won't buy one until the insane prices come down, or it is proven to do something the HK won't.

The projected MSRP is in the neighborhood of 1400 U$. That's not what I would call "insane," especially given what the US dollar has been doing of late.

The Magpul/Bushmaster ACR design does use an AR180 bolt carrier and gas system; but uses an entirely different barrel trunion and receiver than the SL8/G36. If you read the literature, they discuss the differences.

It isn't a new design so much as it is taking many popular features from different designs and combining them into one rifle.

The projected costs has been raised to $1500 and that statement is old enough that $1600 wouldn't surprise me.

I like the design of the Masada/ACR a lot. I won't be getting rid of any of my proven performers to fund a purchase; but I am still planning to buy one. I may wait a little while though to see how the new ones shake out as I have less confidence in Bushmaster than I do in Magpul.

Of course, the good news is that this rifle has created enough interest that I imagine a dozen or so serious shooters will get their hands on one and run it hard before I can - even if I did want one right off the first batch.

NO

I'd like one (to be honest I never met a gun I didn't want) but I have too many projects I am trying to finish now along with a 20 YO motorcycle that needs love. My only purchase next summer is likely to be a Marlin 1894 in .357 along with a revolver to match.

I'm not going to go into debt to get one, but I do want one. The Masada/ACR is the only EBR that seems to offer significant improvements over the AR platform.

Just to clear up some of the typical internet rumormongering and misinformation, the Masada/ACR is not a knockoff of the AR180, HK G36, or any other rifle. It is roughly the same weight as an AR of similar configuration. Is is anything but ungainly.

No. Because the Robsinson Arms XCR already exists and it's a better weapon than the Masada/ACR is *hyped* to be (let alone whether it actually lives up to its hype and runs right, and is ever actually released).

The Masada/ACR (if as advertised) would certainly be the best offering in existence, but for the XCR.

Come on- what are the odds of it ever coming out?

Last year this time it was supposed to be out by Q3 2007. In Q3 2007, when everybody wanted to know where the Masadas were, they said, early 2008. Well, come early 2008, they bumped that up to late 2008. And now it's next year until we see it?

I've no desire for either, but I'm curious what facts you have to back up a post as vehement as that one; especially when you can have but little (if any) field reports on one of the rifles.
