Wyoming:
  • No concealed permit required for in state...you can get a permit so you can carry out of state.
  • No state background checks, waiting periods etc....private sales included.
  • Open carry of course.
I don't see how you can get much better than that.

Some time ago, I read a post about Wyoming's OC provisions and that they were only for "state residents". Has this changed?

OC is open to all in Wyoming. To CC as a Non Wyoming Resident, you do need a Concealed Carry Permit from a reciprocal State.

This is what I intensely dislike about this thread topic -- it ALWAYS degenerates into some members denigrating other members' states. If you don't live there, or haven't lived there, just STHU, you cannot possibly know what the true culture and climate of that state is really like.

Heck, we have Inslee, CHOP, I-594 and I-1639, but we still have a vibrant, live gun culture in my state.

Being in the military, I've lived in Idaho, Washington, Hawaii, Iowa, Arizona, and California. I've met true patriots in every state and people that I would gladly die next to as well.

The truth is that there are great, freedom-loving people in every state, and there are communities of patriots all over our great nation. But, the fact remains that we are outnumbered and losing the battle for freedom and common sense every day.

Yes, Idaho is vastly more pro-gun than Washington. And Arizona is vastly more pro-gun than Iowa (the term "Fudd" was invented for Iowans, from what I've seen), but there are great people in every state and we need to support our fellow patriots and defenders of common sense no matter where they live.

You live there, I'm guessing, but if you buy from a FFL in Wyoming, a BGC is required..but I'm sure you knew that.
No permit is needed to purchase a firearm from a private individual, no background check is required, there is no waiting period and there is no firearms registration in the state. Background checks are required if purchasing a handgun from a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer

Thanks for mentioning Hawaii.

Also, a big Aloha to the great state of Arizona for issuing CWP permits to Hawaii residents. Arizona got my vote.

Texas and California followed by Florida and Virginia. Those are the states where there are the most gun owners and the most guns owned, by far. Yes, they also have large populations of people that are offended by gun ownership and legislation that is onerous to gun owners. Public opinion and legislation vary over time. Keep in mind that states and governments cannot be "friends." People can be made friends, and those states have the most potential friends who own guns.

I have been to all four numerous times, and I greatly prefer California above all.

I don’t believe there is ONE all in compassing State. I think there are several which have a series of friendly attributes. What one has, another matter not. FL, TX, AZ, PA...all really good. As are several more. (That was simply off the top of my head). And there are these that actually are hidden. Pennsylvania, where I live is one many don’t think of. Yet we are open carry, shall issue, incredibly easy to obtain LTCF.(1 form to fill out, $20..that’s it! No class.). Class 3 state. And has the 2nd highest number of LTCF permits in the country. Second only to Florida. So, to be better a state must have ALL that, PLUS something more.

There is no perfect place. Every state has it's pros and cons. Some are very good, some are absolutely terrible when. It comes to firearms. Most people can't afford to pull up roots and move. I know I can't. Let's call it a day for this one.
