I passed up the opportunity to buy M1 Garands at $219 each when they were reimporting them into the USA in the early '90s, and still don't own one, but I've been seriously thinking about the M1A and M14 rifles for a while. On a whim visit to a local pawn shop, I ran across a Polytech M14S that looks practically brand new and has a really nice stock on it. It appears new, as there is very little finish wear on the bolt/receiver mating surfaces. It looks like it's only been hand cycled a few times. They are asking $799 for it, though....I think I can get it for $700.....but I don't think my tax refund check is burning that large of a hole in my pocket.......but it sure is a nice looking gun. They have a new Springfield M1A for $1500, but I know the tax refunds aren't that warm.

On the auction ciruit, there is one no-reserbve at $705 +shipping and transfer and another (with 11 days left) at $650 + Shipping and transfer (reserve not met).

Collector's Firearms in Houston had one on the used rack for $750 if I remember correctly. That was a couple weeks ago. I wasn't in the market so I didn't look too closely. It was in decent shape overall.
The had some Global AK's and used SKS's as well. Most of the SKS's had the bayonet removed.

I might consider going back.
