It seems, based on the number of replies to my post about moving to Portland, that there are a lot of members in the general area.

It also seems like folks are all over the political spectrum, into different aspects of gun ownership/shooting, and that it might be a ton of fun to get together.

I know some of you guys have memberships at local ranges. I bet some of you have decent-sized land.

Would anyone like to host some weekend morning before the weather changes for good?

Throw out a proposal.

Hope this happens.

Josh

I am not currently a member of a range (used to be a member at Tri-County), but would definintely be interested in a get-together! Maybe a morning shoot and a barbeque afterwords.:)

I'm interested, but have no land to host said event or you would all know me by now. That said, don't be surprised if a land owner is leary and hesitant of putting on an event for strangers. Rather, we should try to convene at a public location and proceed from there for safety and personal home security purposes. Then let said landowner(s) invite those they feel comfortable with, exclude those they don't. Instead, we should schedule an event at a public range or an impromptu range area like Browns Camp gravel pit range or Memaloose area.

I've tried to put something like this together before with little interest. However, the interested party, Rob### (#=number I cannot recall), brought a super neat training tool with 4 man target flippers, remote control pneumatic driven random flippers, air tank and the works. It was quite the hoot, and we thanked him a lot for it by helping him set it up and break it down and load it in his mini van. It was not a small setup. It put the stress on you that you needed to actually perform under pressure. Actually, it was more of a learn from your mistakes tool, and we made a bunch of them. Very neat training tool.

If a list forms, please put me on it for I am interested.

On that note, my neighbor and I headed out to Browns Camp range this morning and enjoyed the solitude for an hour or so, then people started rolling in to sight in their hunting rifles, plink their pistols and what have you. By the time we left some 4 hours later, we had quite a pile of brass scrounged for my reloading fix, targets with lots of holes in them, hot barrels in all the 7 or 8 guns we brought, and big smiles abound. As we left, there were 4 people shooting their pistols with that ever so pleasant, Boom, boom, crack, boom, crack, boom....repeat. There was this guy in a white Tacoma pickup that I think could have hit squeaks at 60 yards with his browning buckmark pistol.:D My neighbor and I repeatedly commented on how we wished we could shoot that well.

Well.... Let's do it then. I'd be happy to meet at an outdoor, public location such as a gravel pit in the NF.

Someone throw out a date sometime in the near future. And a place.

Sounds great to me, I just went camping out about 30miles past detroit lake and there were tons of area to shoot and BBQ in the area. I say lets do it, if somebody could host on private land that would be even better.

Well, I just finally (thanks to M60) found the elusive gravel pit I've been searching for SE of Estacada. For those who have never been there, it's about 45 miles SE of downtown Portland, and is located in the Mt. Hood NF. A giant old gravel pit that clearly is used for shooting a lot. I put about 500 rounds downrange there this afternoon.

If we can't find someone with private property or a range membership that allows parties, we could always go somewhere like that. Apparently it's pretty busy on weekends.

If you have never been to Browns camp here are some pictures I took comming home from the coast last weekend. The turn off is aprox. 17.5 miles from the city of Banks on Hwy 6 west bound ( next to a ODOT gravel shed ). There is probably room for 10 shooters if everyone uses good range practices and no one else is already there. There maybe more room for more shooters but the ground is uneven where the range line would be.

I've been at Browns with 50 or 60 people there. Its a little crowded, but it works.

This Thursday or Friday is good for me if it's not pissing buckets. Which it just might be according to the weatherman. I'm available all day Thursday, til about 2 or 3pm Friday. I'm busy this weekend and will be unavailable for any plinking pleasures.

I have tried putting these together before with luke warm luck, but the fellow that did show up had a really neat training system. Please keep this thread alive for it will take a few iterations, but it will happen. It might be a better idea to have a certain weekend every month, or two weekends a month to have a gathering, post it here, and whoever shows up, shows up. This way no one has to absolutely commit, juggle dates, or worry about logistics. Someone will make it, some social interaction will happen, and once the ball is rolling, it'll become bigger as actual face to face contact is made and people start to meet each other.

I'll start the logistics ball rolling by simply throwing this out there. 1st Saturday (or Sunday)of the month have meets in Memaloose area, 2nd Saturday (or Sunday) of the month, meet at Brown's Camp gravel pit.

M60,

I've seen some of your posts with the class III goodies ( great pictures by the way), I wish I could have been number 61, I could deal with any crowd then. Was someone a designated range master with that many people?

My wife finished painting the front of the house a month ago and in the proccess we uncovered a bunch of rot. I now a major remodel job starting, building a garage with a room above, nothing like waiting for the rainy season to start:banghead: I will do my best to attend whenever possible.

I love browns camp. I might be up, even in the cold. As for Larch Mountain forget it, after the stuff several years back, it's closed to shooting. That and the snow gate is almost ALWAYS closed. Only time you can shoot up there is if you know any of the military or police officers who have gate keys and go up tehre to train. Sometimes some of the cops like to go up and use simunitions and have fun playing cops and robbers. I got invited once, but it fell through.
