assault is a behavior, not a device.

How succinct can you get?!:D

That trancends any other argument immediately, but alas, common sense is a minority nowadays.

The feds not having jurisdiction over American citizens is a good argument also, but that would be too easy for most to grasp. Instead we do it the hard way and argue over details irrevelant to the real issues while they chip away with the police state. ROTR is correct. They're arrogant enough to try & renew the ban AND still get reelected. We do need to continue to fight and bend them guys ears with promises of unemployment if they renew it.

Despite this problem with interpreting trends in the prevalence of assault weapon traces, the 1996 trace figures arguably provide the best available estimate of the prevalence of assault weapons among crime guns. Firearm tracing should now be more complete and less biased than at any time previously. For January through May of 1996, assault weapons accounted for 3 percent of all trace requests. Our group of select domestic assault weapons represented 2.5 percent of all traces. Traces for the select assault weapon group accounted for 2.6 percent of traces for guns associated with violent crimes and 3.5 percent of traces for guns associated with drug crimes. This is consistent with previous research indicating that assault weapons are more likely to be associated with drug crimes than with violent crime (Cox Newspapers 1989; Kleck 1991). At the same time, these numbers reinforce the conclusion that assault weapons are rare among crime guns.

Post Your Best Arguments AGAINST the AWB

Only 3 types would support the AWB

1.) Total idiot.
2.) Total tyrant.
3.) Total liar.

Ask the grabber which one fits them.

(sorry, best I got - I'll let someone more polished word-out the finer points)

Most ppl I talk to think it has to do with fully-automatic firearms. After a short explanation most folks of sound mind think its rediculous, however there is always the anti opposed to firearms ownership and think its just one more step to banning them all, and therfore still supports it.

It's unconstitutional, and it creates contempt for the law.
Just on the contempt issue, it should be struck down immediately.

Best Argument... Simple.
We have the right to bear arms (obviously) and that right is in place so that we, the citizens, are capable of maintaining control of our own government.

The AWB clearly puts all of us at a severe disadvantage.
Additionally, it's becoming more and more clear that our government does not listen to us.

I don't figure we'll have that sort of uprising any time soon, but nothing lasts forever...

If you can outlaw a gun based on the way it looks, why can't you arrest a person because of the way they look? Or why can't you put a politician on trial for the murders of socialist leaders from Stalin to Saddam just because the politician is from the political left?
