I must say, those Tact. shotties are making my heart sing.
Makes me wanna get one. Only thing is, do I really need one. There's a dealer near me that has a 870 HD for $294.
Yesterday, I stopped by another dealer and they had a Benelli M1S90 for sale for $815! How is that price? I've seen them go for usually around $1K. I certainly dont need it, never thought I'd consider an autoloader, dont shoot 3 gun matches and I already have a shotgun to use for the clays.
I'm leaning more towards the 870 HD, since I'm familiar more w/ the 870. Only question that I have to figure out is whether I want another 870 for that "tactical" fun. But damn, just having a Benelli gives me the goosebumps. The fit and finish of the Benelli M1 was a lot more superior than the 870. Felt damn nice, but oh well... who knows...

Trust me, Black Majok, you want another 870. A box stock 870 with a short barrel is an outstanding combat shotgun.
Let's do the math....
Out the door, that Benelli will run you close to $900.
New 870 HD-$300.
Weekend at Shootin' Skuhl, $300.
A flat of STS bird loads for practice, lots of buck and slugs-$200 or whatever you want.
So for the price of the Benelli, a decent shotgun, you can not only pick up one of the finest fighting tools yet devised, but ammo and some expertise.
The bellsnwhistles can be added later, if you still want them.
Let's do the math....

I was actually thinking about a 870 MM also, and use the rest for shells.
But a question I was curious about was, is it possible to put the longer barrels (26", 28") on the HD models with the ext. mag. tubes?
I think it would be nice to use the HD gun to have it as a spare as a skeet/trap gun for a friend whenever I take them out to shoot clays w/ me. I know most of my friends would never get a shotgun since its so taboo here, but they do enjoy shooting w/ me every once in a while.

All 870 barrels are interchangeable within gauge, with a few exceptions. Special Field barrels do not, and new 20 gauge barrels do not fit older eceiver, say pre 72 or so.

Blackmagic, since you are in Orange County, you are welcome to shoot my Benelli and decide if you really like it or not. Maybe you won't like the ergonomics or the sight configuration or whatever?
Shotgun training-- look up Bill Murphy www.ftatv.com and/or Scott Reitz www.intltactical.com both highly recommended, disclaimer being I never took shotty with Reitz-only pistol.
Telling you to buy the 870 and spend the difference on ammo is like saying buy a stick instead of an auto and spend the rest on gasoline. Just buy what you like and run it anyway.

I finally got a digital camera for Christmas, and could resist reviving this thread. Here is a picture of my 870 hd, which I have managed to put a 1000 rounds through this past year. Unfortunately, I was on active duty last year, and had a time crunch, and none of those shells have been at aerial or moving targets, I definitely need to rectify that this year.

Hmm... I thought that you couldn't have a mag. ext. if you have a PG w/o the buttstock.

I knew about the restriction of semiauto shotguns and mag extensions, but isnt that a pump? Not that theres anything wrong with out having a mag extension, 3-4 rounds of any shotgun gauge should more than do the trick. My next shotgun will probally remain stock with no extension. I want to get my younger sister into shooting shotguns, but mine is too heavy at the forend for her with all the dooads hanging off it. I tried to tell her the whole gun only weighs 10 pounds...
