I just encountered jacket shaving with reloading 348 win and 284 win......

I haven't had this problem ever in the past. I always FL size die bumping shoulder back at least 0.003".

Someone suggested lyman "M" die. Though not available in 284 win it may be in 348 or maybe I can substitute with another close "caliber cousins" die.

I always chamfer mouth of case too.

What's your preferred method to remedy shaving copper????

I end up with a copper dust deposit, real small burrs. Almost like a salt shaker puts out. Right around the top of the neck which is easily wiped away.

Chamfer the case mouth a bit more maybe. I’ve just never had that problem. Is it something that just started happening with a new batch of brass?

The angle of your case trimmer might be at fault. My Lyman hand tool is about 30 degrees and I've seen this problem. The new Forster tool is set to just 14 degrees leaving a longer "slope" and I haven't had the problem since.

I only load pistol, so my reply may not be appropriate for your question.

I did start to have some shavings loading 45acp jacketed bullets, and my problem was a combination of not chamfering new brass and too little flare before seating. I have since chamfered all new brass and set my expander a bit deeper and my brass/bullet shavings have stopped.

I do use a chamfering tool and do not rely on the trimmer to do the chamfering. I think the one I use is a Hornady and it looks like a little rocket.

Lyman "M" die expanders are the bee knees for me....but I don't know how many calibers they come in.

I noticed those NOE expanders have "M" style ledges too on some.

A bump of the case neck with a Lee Universal expander die will also work. Lyman doesn’t sell a cartridge specific M-die. Either a SHORT or LONG die body, and diameter specific (ie: 0.28”) expander. I’ve got both short and long bodies and .22, and .30cal expander plugs.
For 7-30Waters and 7x57Mauser I’ve used the Lee Universal Die.

A chamber that doesn’t leave a burr usually does the trick, if it doesn’t you need a seat die that will seat the bullet straight. Only a crooked bullet can touch the sharp edge of the mouth, if the case is chamfered.

You shouldn’t need the over sized expanders if your not shooting cast bullets.

They all have them. It's a great system with a lot more flexibility than an M die.
