I been reading all these post from you guys who can shoot one hole groups
at 100 yds. Lets shoot at 25 yds and I will put my pistol up against your
scoped sighted in-line rifles. Sound fair? It's not is it? I feel sorry for you.
You don't have a chance in hell. Got your interest up now I bet. Here's how
it's going to work. I will pay 20.00 to the first target I see who has beat my
score. I still have "Bells Palsy" and can't see to shoot right now so the best
I can do is to put up what I shot last at Friendship in June 2011. Here is the
link, it's public record. http://www.nmlra.org/pdfs/web_JuneShootResults2011.pdf
Mu name is Phil so you can see my 98 XXXX. Since we are talking rifle here
the rifle match is only 5 shots. So my 98XXXXwould be a 49XX. Now I shot
that in a pistol match on a pistol target. The challange is for you to shoot
your rifle on the 25 yd NMLRA rifle target. It's just as hard for me to shoot
a 49XX on a pistol target as it is for you to shoot a 49XX on a rifle target.
So it is fair. For those of you who don't have the reqired target I will accept
just a dot or circle drawn on a piece of paper and shot at a true 25 yds.
Not 10 yds and like some of you call it 25. This is to be done offhand.
The size of the "10" ring is .890 So you have to shoot a 49XXX or a 50
to beat me. This expires March 30th 2012. That gives you a good month.
Remember the 1st one to beat me gets the 20.00 Well it's time to put up.
Remember this is a FRIENDLY match. Keep it that way.

The ring in the center is .890

This should be very interesting.

The NMLRA Friendship pistol matches are shot using one hand only. I presume your challenge would require the NMLRA offhand stance for rilfes, yes? And scoring per NMLRA rules (hole center must be within the ring)?

Does it have to be an inline with a scope?

Can I use my Hawken .54? It all depends on weather and how busy I am though in terms of getting out to the range.

Dying to go make some smoke. I'm always itching come this time of year waiting for the weather to break.

its only 25 yards and with a scoped inline that would be impossible. Bad enough someone foolishly said my 100 yard target was 1 shot when it was actually 3!

I will be ordering a black powder pistol on monday though!

I'd be happy to be official scorer and scorekeeper.

Post the targets to:

THR Postal Match
P. O. Box 6
National City, MI 48748

Please include, on the target, your THR screen name.

One hole targets - must either be verified by an independent witness who saw all 5 shots or by a moving target baker with index marks tied to the target.

As to the gun, it's Phil's challenge, and his money, so it's up to him, but I didn't see anywhere he specified a scoped inline, nor did he open the match to pistols. My opinion: muzzleloading rifles with any ignition, sights or optics. Offhand stance; that is, standing on two feet, no other support, rifle supported by two hands only (no rests, monopods, bipods or crossticks), one of which is placed on the rifle forearm. OK?

Im gonna wipe yall clean off the chart once i order this'n and figure out what to shoot from it. Mine will have open sights though. Pistols and scopes suck badly, way to shaky looking.

Just curious, how do we verify the results beyond the physical target? Do we shoot video, take photos of us in the act, or what?

I'm assuming a five shot group....

And can someone explain to me what all these numbers and XX, XXX, and XXXX stuff is? I don't compete in matches so I'm completely ignorant of official target scoring.

It's a postal match. We accept your word that you followed the rules; there's no other 'verification' required.

Yes, 5 shots will be scored. 6 or more shots on the target is a disqualification. (Note - this is not per NMLRA rules. The NMLRA would require that the 5 lowest scoring holes be used. I will change this to follow the NMLRA rule if you prefer.)

Once again: the challenge is that the first target received* scoring 49XXX or better wins the $20.

A '49' means 4 shots within the '10' ring, which in this case is a circle 0.89" in diameter, and the 5th shot within the '9' ring, which is a circle twice as large as the '10' ring (4 times 10 plus 1 times 9 equals 49). The 'XXX' means three of the 4 shots inside the '10' ring are also within the 'X' ring; the 'X' ring is a circle just 0.39" in diameter. 'Within the ring' means the center of the hole must be inside the ring; holes with the center touching the ring will be given the value of the ring.

* I will check the PO box daily except Sunday at 11am (mail is delivered to the boxes between 9 and 11 am 6 days a week). In the event two or more targets with a score of 49XXX or better are posted to the box on the same day the earliest postmark on the envelope will determine the winner. Targets will become the property of [email protected].

I will not enter the contest.

Well, it's March 29th, 2012. No entries have been received.

Are there any? Or were those 'one hole groups' just so much hot air after all?

I may give it a try if the weather permits, but that is no small accomplishment offhand. Just for clarification, wouldn't the X-ring be .890? If so, what is the 10-ring? If not, yikes, 9 out of 10 shots into less than an inch.

The 10 ring is 0.890" in diameter.

The X is a cross in the center of the 10 ring with two perpendicular legs 0.390" long each (which effectively defines a circle 0.390" in diameter).

A winning score (wrt the $20) is one round in the 9 ring, 4 rounds in the 10 ring, with three of those 4 within the ring defined by the center X, or all 5 rounds inside the 10 ring.

And yes, 9 out of 10 inside a circle less than an inch in diameter from 25 yards, one handed standing with a pistol is quite a feat.

Well unfortunately time is up and I just got my rifle today. Very doubtful that I could have beat the Grand Master, but it would have been an inspiration to try. What is the actual NMLRA target that would be the one to get? Is there one that can be printed from an online source for practice? You gonna let that twenty bucks ride?

The challange is for you to shoot your rifle on the 25 yd NMLRA rifle target....This expires March 30th 2012.

AFAIK, the NMLRA doesn't have rifle targets that are specifically labeled as being "25 yard rifle target". The NMLRA uses the 50 yard targets to fire their 25 yard rifle matches with. At least that's what my NMLRA club used at 25 yards. The target that kwhi43 actually displayed in post #1 is the NMLRA 50 yard target that is marked RB-50-6-8 which is the first target on the following page:

Semantics.

The NMLRA does not have a special target designated 25 yard rifle target. However, when they hold a 25 yard rifle match, they call the target they use a '25 yard rifle target'; the piece of paper is indeed the RB-50-6-8.

Think of it this way: it's the '25 yard rifle (match) target'; the words '25 yard rifle' are adjectives rather than part of a title.

That's true, but the lack of identification on the target is why BE Wild Willy didn't know which target to use, even though the challenge was made over a month ago.
