Hello All, Question, what would the cheapest/economical powder for reloading trap loads??.I will be using 7/8 shot for these. Thanx for any suggestions.....sort00

I switched from red dot to clays about 10 yrs ago. I noticed it is softer shooting, i.e. less felt recoil and burns very clean. Red dot used to be a very dirty burning powder, it has been reformulated to burn cleaner, but IMO still not as clean as clays. Clays also meters better than red dot.

clays for me a little bit more expensive than red dot but super clean and extremely soft recoil. it meters very good and did i mention that it is super clean you can shoot 100's of rounds before a swab will even get dirty also good fps and even paterns thats why your shooting in the first place have fun and go for 25 straight then 50 straight then 100 straight

Red Dot, Green Dot, 700x, Clays, Solo 1000, Nitro 100, Promo, Win Super Lite, Clay Dot, and E3. Those are all powders that will push your standard 1 ounce or 1 1/8 ounce load to the needed 1200 fps (3 dram) velocity. I have found that of all of them Nitro 100 has the most snap. RD, GD, and 700x are the traditionals.. 452AA used to be the Winchester favorite before Super Lite. Trap 100 was the Hodgdon equiv to 452AA. Both now discontinued I believe.

Red Dot for 1-1/8 (Promo when I can score a jug)
Clays for 1oz
Titegroup in a pinch - meters extremely well so your velocities are very consistent
