Has anyone purchased from powder valley in a while? I never have and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they paid shipping on and order or if the customer service will/minds letting you know what shipping will be on an order.
I'm thinking of buying some primers somewhere around 5,000 cci 500 and 5,000 cci 300 and maybe 8lbs of titegroup. Trying to get some stuff before we get close to the election.
Wish I knew somebody around me who reloaded quantity to divide up shipping with, the few people I know reloading are reloading for accuracy/rifles and doesn't need much component wise. I like to go out and shoot a few 100 rounds when ever I go shooting which is normally once or twice a week.

shipping + hazmat, I just make sure to order enough that it off sets that charge
they normally beat the local shelf prices in my area

Excellent service, Use them when ever I have a big enough order to offset the HM fees.

only a guideline , but, Per their site:
We will ship via the best method to save you money. Shipping will be calculated and added to your order. Our typical shipping charges are based on the subtotal of your order. Subtotal <$150.00, shipping $9.95; <$300.00, $13.95; <$600.00, $15.95; >$600, $19.95

Their 1st email shows what you ordered, total, Ks. tax (if applicable), and Haz-mat.

When they ship the 2nd email will be have a .pdf attachment. That will show you what total charges. My last powder order from them, dating back to August, showed $28.50 and $13.95 for freight. Then you get an email from UPS for tracking.

If I have to mail order powder, I always go to Powder Valley first. They have always been great to deal with.

Got a confirmation email on the 2nd, a shipping notice on the 8th, and it is due here tomorrow, the 11th.

They are great to deal with, I have never shipped but have picked it up in person at their warehouse, very nice folks. Too bad I am also in kansas and sales tax applies. 8 to 9 percent pays a lot of shipping.

Fast to my door and great prices. Cannot complain! just have to get enough to make it worth the hazmat fees!

So the question for you all that have ordered from them, what is your break point that offsets the hazmat fee? I want to order from them at some point and it will be a solo order, I.e no group order, just trying to put a $ amount to when it makes sense. Thanks for any advice.

Be careful it isn't completed reliant on price. I ordered 5,500 bullets and they had to ship in three boxes and charged me $48 for shipping.

I generally max the "weight". I believe Powder Valley will let 48 lbs go with one hazmat fee. For most primers, they view the weight as 1 lbs / 1000 (I believe federal is different - due to packaging). Powder goes out at the net weight for hazmat (actual weight for freight). So if you order 30 lbs of powder, and 18,000 primers - one hazmat - lowest total cost. Talk with customer service - they are great! I hope this helps.

Best

I've bought from them with no issues, but I can't buy enough at once to justify the hazmat fee. I'll either buy my powders and primers locally or do without, I can't stomach that $28.50 fee for 1 or 2 lbs of powder. The government-imposed "rape fee".

With powder going for about $30-35 per lb. locally. I can usually buy 8-10 lb. of powder and a couple bricks of primers and be ahead $7-10 per lb. Plus it saves me from having to waste gas and time looking for what I want.

To add, Powder Valley uses UPS, for my orders anyway. They haven't required a signature as of yet for my orders. FedEx usually does.

Local prices around me are pretty high. I make up for the hazmat with the first 8 lb jug. The second 8 lb jug more than covers the freight, usually. Everything after that is gravy. I also like to put an order together with a buddy or two and split the freight and hazmat.

I try not to buy 1 lb bottles anymore. Powder will keep for a long time.

if you aren't buying your powder in 4 or 8# jugs you should be.

We are just recovering from the banic of 2013 - 2014 with another possible (likely?) panic only a few months away.

As discussed powder keeps for a long time especially now that it is stored in plastic jugs.

Only if we, the reloaders, allow it to become another panic. We're good about chopping off our nose despite our face.

I agree though about buying in bulk, it's just cheaper that way.

Mine got updated to be here Monday, but hey, that's still not bad all things considered.

I bought 8 lbs of powder and 3k primers from them about 3-4 weeks ago. Shipping was in the area of $16. Buy with confidence.

I am a member of my local range, which has lots of powder for sale. Members get special pricing on everything at the range.
I wanna say 1k primers are about $26 and powders are about........$17-25 per pound.
If memory serves, I paid $150 plus tax for an 8lbs jug of BE86, $185 for 8lbs jug of IMR8208 and H335 is about $26 out the door after tax.
When I order from Powder Valley, it is because they have something I need really bad, but is out of stock at my range.
My last order from them was 8lbs of IMR8208 and 3k primers. That's about what I am willing to stomach for hazmat/shipping if it is something I really need.
If I were just buying powder to have extra laying around, it would have to be 2-8lbs jugs to offset hazmat.

I ordered 2 boxes of primers and a pound of powder last Monday. It's Tuesday evening and no shipping update yet. I'm beginning to wonder but I'm not in a hurry either.
