How much does Powder Valley Inc. charge for shipping? I am looking to buy a large order of primers and powder, but all the website says is that shipping charges will be applied once the order is placed. I don't want an unpleasant surprise of an unexpectedly high shipping charge.

that statement seems weird to me to "once order is placed"? I'd call them. I can't beleive they have any primers to ship!!

I've placed a couple of decent-sized orders from them in the past, say $300 to $600 worth. S&H and the hazmat combined was about $30 as I recall, of which shipping was maybe $10-$12 of that and $20 was hazmat I think.

DPMS does the same thing. If you call them and tell them what you were going to order they will tell you what shipping will be.

Their web page will tell you what's in stock. If anything is marked "Expected April 27" then be sure and mark your order to ship all or none, otherwise you'll get a double has-mat charge and double shipping charge.

I've used them many times , as recently as 2 weeks ago , and have never been unpleasantly surprised.

Power and primers CAN and ARE shipped in the same box for ONE hazmat fee.

I've found Powder Valley shipping prices to be reasonable and in the past when something wasn't in stock that was listed on the web site as being in stock, they called me to be sure it was OK to ship without the item in question. In my opinion, you can deal with them in confidence.

I believe that is no longer the case. On a recent order my supplier said (with regrets by the way) primers and powder may no longer be shipped together. New shipping rules with carriers. The hazmat had also increased 12% to 22.50. I'd call first regarding hazmat shipping.

From Powder Valley's home page:

WE CAN COMBINE UP TO 48 LBS. OF POWDER AND PRIMERS UNDER ONE HAZMAT TO SAVE YOU MONEY. IF SENDING FUNDS IN ADVANCE, PLEASE CALL FOR ASSISTANCE IN CALCULATING YOUR AMOUNT.

I received a large order from them two or three weeks ago and primers and powder were shipped together (and the hazmat fee was only $20). I don't think they have any primers in stock -- at least that's what their website shows.

There are companies like MidwayUSA that do not stock the powder and have the customer order drop-shipped from their distributor. They are charging 2 hazmat fees for a mixed order because they are shipping as two separate orders from two separate origins.

Powder Valley, on the other hand, stocks both primers and powder, so they ship them both in a single shipment for one HazMat fee.

I am in the trucking business. HazMat regs have not changed.

Just recieved an order from powder valley on Tuesday. They used Fed-Ex. When I emailed them about the order before placing it they told me that the most I'd pay if I "maxed out a box" (48lbs) that it'd be 20 bucks shipping.

Somewhere along the line I was mistaken that they halved HazMat for 16-32 pounds of powder and eliminated it for 32+ pounds.... or they stopped that hookup sometime between january when I started herding people together and the previous Tuesday when I placed the order. 4 days to process the order, 3 to get here.

Personally snagged 8# of H-4350, 8# of HP-38, 8# of Clays, 4# of H-4895, 4# of Unique, and 5# of Reloader 15. Counting the bullets (2k) and the 16 or so pounds of powder my buds ordered (weak...) I felt the 20 bucks for shipping was a pretty darned good deal. Midway, and I do order from them but never hazmat stuff, probably would have hit me for 50 :D

Just received 48lbs of powder I ordered 2 weeks ago from PV. Shipping using Fedex was $21.00. Their shipping rates are very reasonable. I'm so glad they're around.
