I have a good friend named Bill who is in the hospital with diabetes and other issues. He is 73 and his health has been going downhill since the passing of his wife 6 years ago. We usually go out to eat once a week or so, but lately he hasn't felt up to snuff. I called and left 2 messages on his answering machine and when he didn't return my calls I went to his house to check on him. I was met by his nephew who told me he was in the hospital. He was found on the floor in his office. He fell and laid there for about 2 days before he was rescued by another friend. He broke the phone as it fell on the floor or he was too confused to use it. His diabetes was so bad he has gangreen in one of his feet and had 2 toes amputated. He's been in the hospital since Sat. and they are running all kinds of tests on him. He blames the death of his wife on doctor's and doesn't like them. He has't been to a doctor in a very long time. Living alone he doesn't eat well. I really think the only things that kept him going were his cats and his friends.
For all who have family and friends that have health problems, I urge you to stay in touch and keep an eye on them. I feel somewhat guilty as I suspected he had diabetes and even asked him if he did, but he denied it. I don't think I could have persuaded him to go to a doctor though.
I talked to him last night and he said "Ken, the food up here is great".
Please keep Bill in your prayer's.
