Just walked back in the door from Cabela's. They had one just like it @ $1499.

Does it say COLT on the receiver and are all the parts made or sourced by COLT?

Ofcourse not. What a silly question. The lower receiver is an 80%. The upper receiver, bolt and internal parts are from a Demiled m16. Of course without any of the full auto fire control parts.

Just after I got out right before you in Dec. '88, I built an XM177E2 clone, with 11" pinned shrouded barrel to make 16". I always wanted one, and helped our division recon unit build CAR-15's when they wanted them.

I also liked the size and look of the XM177E2 so like you I built one myself. Started with an upper I picked up at a gun show (think it was a Bushmaster), added an Olympic Arms lower, and finished it with a lot of the parts made by Colt (including the aluminum collapsible butt stock).

Don't believe me, just look at original FN Belgium FAL's... Or how about an HK MP5

Those are not common firearms, not originally sourced from America, nor imported any longer (as I understand it.) The AR-15 is a completely different thing.

My point which it looks like was missed, is that we are swimming in AR15's of all makes, models, calibers, parts, quality, etc.

Well, given the current availability... not really 'swimming.' I know, I'm trying to build an AR-10 right now.

Here's the thing... I don't consider myself a 'collector' of any sort. I have firearms, I shoot them. They fill a need, either personal or practical, it's that simple. I happen to like my H-Bar in the configuration it's in, both for personal and practical reasons, with my simple and reversible modifications. Unless you use a cutting torch, everything you do to an AR is reversible. The OP's friend, either wisely or unwisely, wants to modify HIS firearm... so what? Is it more valuable to sell it as a complete rifle? Probably... but then he would be at the mercy of trying to find a replacement, in this market, and it's uncertainty.

Jeepers... I wonder what they would give me for mine??? ;)

About $975.

I asked once about their policy when I talked to them about selling a gun. They told me 65% of what they would price it in the store. We agreed exactly as to my guns real value. I don't expect to be able to sell mine for what they would sell it for but I felt like I could do better than 65% of that.
