I've been looking everywhere for preban mags for my Baby Eagle, full size in 9mm, and so far I've only found one on gun broker and they wanted a whopping $80 for a 15rd mag. Does anyone know of a good place to look for these things that doesn't involved getting bent over? I'll stick to the 10 round mags if I have to, but I'd really like to snag some prebans.

Exactly how do you tell that the mag is preban? I know they would be small frame 15 rounders and probably witness mags.

I'm not even sure how you tell. It could be a date stamp if they have them, or a specific way they were designed...either way, I can take any chances. It's not worth becoming a dangerous felon over!

I was just wondering because I haven't seen dates on pistol mags but I have on AR 15 mags. I mean if it was made between 1994 and 2004 it would probably say law enforcement only. I also don't think they are like glock mags where they have different generations. Try asking here. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?board=27.0

If you must have magazines made before a certain date, I have several that were made prior to the ban that I can do a trade with if need be. The CZ-75 magazine fits all the pistols mentioned, assuming the Witness is a small-frame pistol and not the current large-frame only models (including the 9mm and 40S&W).

Otherwise, MecGar makes superb magazines for these pistols - sometimes better than factory in the case of the Tanfoglio magazines.

What is the legal issue that you're dealing with? Trying to get around a state limit of greater than 10-round mags by using pre-ban mags? If so, you're probably going to have to get them from someone IN-STATE, with some form of documentation.

Just because a seller tells you they're pre-Ban may not help you if you've got to prove it, later.

At different times I've had a bunch of CZ and Tanfoglio pre-bans, and they simply were no different than post-ban mags. (Some came with new guns, as CZ had a big inventory of pre-bans that were able to sell with their 75bs. A lot of shady dealers and distributors swapped some of them out on the guns, inserting 10-round mags and selling the 15 round mags at a premium.)

I'm not sure the 5 extra rounds are worth the money. In a self-defense situation you're unlikely to need that many rounds, and at the range, the extra capacity is convenient but not important. Just get several good quality 10-rounders.

It's actually for my Baby Eagle/Jericho 941. I don't really have anything to trade at the moment, could I just buy them off of you?

If they wanted to prosecute me for the magazines, the burden of proof would be on them, not me, so I don't really need documentation, other than for my own piece of mind, which I can do without.

I'm well versed in mag laws in NY. I'm not required to get them in NY with documentation.

Pre-Ban ?

Maybe I missed something...its possible.

Pre-ban? Who cares? Plenty of good quality hi-cap mags abound today. We are living (for the moment) in the pre-ban world. Collector value??

Do not think so.

We have those first three things too. It's just that our high cap mags have to be younger than 1994. Otherwise, we're dangerous felons who deserve to be locked in a cage for a very long time.

Props

Good on ya. No disrespect intended. I think sometime when we out here think of NY, we think of NYC. All in all our gun laws out here, for better or worse ( I tend to think better) are a little more liberal.

I understand the pre-ban question now. Best, and good luck!!

Oh yeah! I can understand that confusion. NYC is 10000X worse than what the rest of the state deals with. Yeah, you won't find any of those things down there.

By the way. I have the "Italian" made Tanfoglio Force Carry. in.40 (15 round mags) In your experience how do you think this pistol compares to the Jericho and other CZ-75 clones.

When I bought the Tanfoglio, it was my intention to pick up an actual CZ-75, but, about $200 difference. I have heard really good things about the Jericho.

Maybe Pictures could order some new ones andhave em drop shipped to Ash's house. When Ash receives said mags and all is good he could ship his to Pictures.

Pictures gets his pre ban
Ash gets new mags. Win/win?

I suspect that gun is very similar to the Witness that has the same name. (The Witness has a poly frame.)

All of those "other" guns mentioned above are basically made by Tanfoglio, with minor tweaks to satisfy the importer or final asssembler. The Baby Eagle is considered by some to be even more "ergonomic" than the CZ -- and that's saying a lot.

The Tanfoglio mags in .40 might work in a 9mm Baby Eagle, by the way. The BATF once ruled that using a .40 mag with a 9mm (thereby making it a HI-CAP mag) was legal; I don't know how the OP's state would feel about that.

If you're not concerned about documentation, any 15-round CZ or Tanfoglio or Witness (same thing) mags should be fine. The same should be true of 15-round Mec-Gar mags for the same guns. Newer mags have higher capacities (16+) and would clearly NOT be pre-ban.
