Took vacation to Cody, Wyoming, gateway to Yellowstone Park, and a very nice destination. There is a firearms museum there which was the highlight of my trip. The museum is more than simply a firearms museum, and is one of the best arranged, and innovative architecturally, that I've visited. It all flows very well, and the architecture really complements the exhibits.
Following the march of firearms technology through the centuries was really fascinating, but there is so much more here to write about than I have time for.
What I found in these photos was a Murata Action rifle which bears an uncanny resemblance to the Mosin-Nagant, 3 line, Rifle of 1891. Obviously there is much I cannot tell about the Murata Action from these photos, but doesn't this action strongly resemble the M-N? The cocking piece at the back of the bolt looks so similar, as does the large lug with the bolt handle on it which fits the bridge between the receiver rings. The octagonal receiver? The extension of the cocking piece which rides in that notch between the rear receiver ring? Some very similar design elements it seems to me.
This site shows the action open. The Murata has no front locking lugs. However, if you simply add those locking lugs, and the innovative magazine with interrupter, one has a close comparison, seems to me.
