I have a Remington 1100 magnum that has a 30" full choke barrel with a matte or parkerized finish to it. I have just ordered a new, blue finish rem-choke barrel for it. i'd like to apply some Parkerizing gray aluma-hyde II to the new barrel so it matches more closely to the matte finish of the receiver. I know I need to degrease the new barrel before hitting it with the aluma-hyde, but will I also need to sand it first? What is a good, readily available (ie auto parts/wally world) degreaser to use? I have used the aluma-hyde on a pistol before, and had decent results using a spray on brake cleaner, but I didn't do any sanding on the parts I painted (slide, trigger, mag release). The pistol had a worn finish to start with, that's why I didn't feel the need to prep much. This will be a BRAND NEW barrel. thoughts?

The best surface prep would be a fine grit blast but if that is not possible, brake or carburetor cleaner applied several times especially around the rib posts. Be sure to wear rubber gloves to prevent skin oils from contaminating the surface.
