I've got one small part that needs to be coated. I'd like to do it at home since the entire gun is going to get refinished by the end of the year.

Anyone ever use this Aluma-hyde II & what did you think? Any other at home finishes that are decent?

I've used it on my guns. The problem is it's a paint and all paint wears from handling. It doesn't adhere good to some steels very well but I have it on the frame of a Beretta(aluminum) and it's held up pretty good.

I've never tried but have heard people have good luck with BBQ grill and VHT header paint.

The reason it doesn't adhere well to some steels is because it's made for aluminum. I've never used it, but have been meaning to get some to cover a nik in the frame of my SIG.

As long as you clean ALL the grease etc. off whatever you're coating by using simple green, acetone, or something STRONG like that, then make sure you get it all off... (wear rubber gloves so your finger oils don't get on it)

And by making absolutely sure you don't TOUCH the part or reassemble it for 2 weeks so it can cure, you will be amazed at how well it holds up, on steel, aluminum, fiberglass, etc.

If you don't do those 2 things, it doesn't hold as well.
