How does fully cured Aluma-Hyde II hold up to heat? If I paint my AK with it, and the barrel gets HOT so does the gas tube, is the paint gonna melt off?

With proper prep, it will stick forever. media blasting and degreasing make all the difference.

How hot does that tube get? 400F?

probably 3-400 degrees yeah. Duplicolor 500 engine enamel doesn't burn off so it's lower than 500 I assume?

heat

If you fire a few rounds a minute it should be fine, but if you tend to empty 30 round mags in that same minute its proably going to bubble up and flake off. If you are looking for something to do a barrel with you might want to try DuraHeat.

I have actually baked alumahyde II at 350 for over and hour to speed cure and it is fine. If you get that paint to bubble up I would be very surprised.

Well the water temp in my YJ is like 210* optimally. Even if that's the temperature of your coolant, it's still coming from the engine itself so it probably isn't more than 500.

As was said, if you prep the piece your painting correctly the Aluma Hyde will be fine.

I have had the gloss black AHII fade to a dark grey when it got really hot, but have been assured that that phenomenon has been corrected.

We have used AHII for years, and have painted barrels, gas tubes, receivers and just about everything else and have not had any appreciable customer complaints.
