Greetings.

Here's a question for either you pro gunsmiths out there or guys like me who have had this mod done.

What is a (ballpark) fair price for having an AR heavy barrel turned down to A2 profile and re-parkerized?

Past this, what would a gunsmith charge to lop off 2" of barrel, recrown, and re-park?

I know prices will vary from smith to smith, but I want to know about what to expect when I start asking around.

I want to lighten up my 20" A2 Bushy with a heavy barrel so that my slightly built girlfriend can use it. I have also heard that 18" medium contour (sp?) barrels are all the rage in 3 gun matches.

Thanks

Indeed, he does seem to be the guy to do the work.

Thank you very much for that link 444.

Have you had any work done by Mr. Kurt?

Yes. I have had two guns worked on by him.
I had a 16" Bushmaster barrel turned down by him to his lightweight configuration and had him mount one of his muzzle brakes on it. I made this rifle up into a very lightweight carbine. It has night sights and an entry stock.
I also had him remove the mini-y-comp muzzle brake from a Bushmaster M4 clone and install one of his muzzle brakes on it.

He is the guru. Talk to anyone "into" ARs about this type of work and his name will come up.

I get your point, but Kurt is always very busy threading barrels. That is his primary occupation. I have had him thread two of mine.

Kurt has a forum over at the ar15.com "industry" board. He is really good about posting there and gives quotes via that board all the time.
