I don't know what reloading is like in the PI, but its easy to cut down 9MM Luger brass to 18MM and load the 9MM Mak bullets.

+1 I've heard of that being done by reloaders also.

kumusta Baneblade!

yes lots of reload ammo here ill check on it for you.

we got .40 ad .50 now dont have enough info on it yet.

mainmech48 thank you for your honest and good advice, i think ill try to look for .380 cal mak, or anything small and handy.

thnx TripleL, i think i wont be able to sleep from now on. hehe! but one way or the other i will get one, the best thing about the makarov is that it is small and it shoots a bigger ammo and i love it.

guys i something just came to me, 9X19 is parabelum and mak is 9X18, what is x18 or x19 on the measurement is it the thickness of the ammo or the length? im sorry but i dont know the terms you use.

If the KGBs trusted their lives on Makarovs, so should you... :) Makarov: practical, compact, rugged, accurate, reliable, and all steel... what else can you ask for...? I could ask for a little more power... aka a Makarov chambered in 7.62 x 25... not possible of course for a straight blow-back to handle the Tokarev psi.... but still, a dream...

The "18" on the 9x18 is the length or height (in millimeters) of the case. A 9mm Parabellum or Luger has a 19mm case and the .380 is 9x17. One important thing to know is that the 9x18 Makarov round is actually 9.2mm in diameter. Of course, they are not interchangeable. Hope this helps.

I think a Makarov COULD be converted to 9x19 by reaming out a 380 barrel BUT you would have to download the ammo to 9X18 ballistics to avoid destroying it. ITs possible there might be a light loaded 90gr 9mm round that might work? Most 90gr I've seen are way too hot though.

how bout if id just ream the 9mm barrel to fit the luger 9mm, is it possible?

thanks CannonFodder...does 380 come in different sizes like the 9mm?

The downside to what I said would be that it would be capable of chambering regular 9mm ammo that would likely destruct the weapon if it was fired with it.

I think the Makarov barrel could be rechambered to accept the 19mm Luger case and then loaded with the correct cal bullet, .365 dia.

Why anyone would want to do this is beyond me as I would just shorted the cases to 18mm.

if we can shorten the case its great:):):):), we dont have maks here in the PI:(:(:(:(...it really upsets me:scrutiny::cuss:

9mm x 19 Also known as 9mm Luger--bullet dia. .356

.380 ACP--bullet dia. .356

9mm x 18 Also known as 9mm Makarov--bullet dia. .365

Thanks Shear Stress I had a Senior moment, seems to happen more and more.

The cut down 9x19 case to 9x18 can be sized to accept the slightly larger 9MM Makarov bullet. I and many others do it regularly.

Yes, but that's a whole lot different then altering a blow-back action designed to handle about 20,000 PSI for a cartridge that produces as much as 38,500 PSI.

Guns designed for the 9mm Luger are almost universally lock-breach designs to handle the pressure.

Which the MAK isn't.
