Ammo will be like gasoline, after it dropped from $4.30 a gallon down to $3.50 a gallon we feel like it is a good deal. I remember .30 cent a gallon gas when I first started driving. Ammo that used to be $250 per 1000 5.56x45 is now close to $1 a round. Do you really think the suppliers are going to flood the market with 5.56x 45 to bring the price back down to $250 per 1000?? Might as well suck it up and figure on paying .75 cents a round if it comes down that much!! Now that suppliers know the people will pay those prices, they will keep production low and prices high!! Just like the oil companies have done!!

Were you around for the last ammo "shortage"? If so, and you were paying attention, you'd know this to be untrue.

Also, how many reputable retailers are charging $1/rnd? I've seen prices like that on armslist, just laughed and hit the flag button.

On the flip side, I've always been the kind of person to buy what I intend to shoot on my way to the range, and maybe keep one spare box of ammo at home. Every gun owner I know is the same way.

I think these people are a big source of this buying surge.

I think these people are realizing that they are behind the curve, and are finally realizing that relying on ammunition being available, and affordable, at a moment's notice is maybe not the best assumption...and are now buying some to 'put back'

Add to that the people who just have to have tens of thousands of rounds to feel comfortable (and can AFFORD it)

And add to that the new gun owners/shooters who are buying their first guns, and ammo to match. Or their first rifle(s), or their first handgun(s), and the newly required ammunition

Heck, I ordered brass case .223 for 33.6 cents per round...shipped...AFTER the recent election.

It took something like 18 months, but after the '08 fiasco things DID normalize.

Lc 223 / 5.56

Cheaper Than Dirt has this ammo but the price has gone up. The M855 may also be a lot (SMQ) meaning sub mil quality. The 193 and 223 should not come apart after exiting the bbl. Federal sells the same stuff in American Eagle. Cheers

Talk about an understatement.

Federal M855 is $400...for 300 rounds.

So that's you? Please stop flagging my post!

Seriously people ammunition will again become available as soon as supply again catches up with demand. This is not a first and likely will not be a last. As to retailers trying to make a buck? Just remember who they were and when the dust settles take actions against them with a well connected shooting community. Take note of the retailers who maintained the same price till their existing inventories depleated without increasing price. Those are the folks you want to give repeat business to.

Market forces at work

Supply and demand at work here. not only do the ammo manufacturers make out like bandits, the boys on Wall St. are rolling as well! Time to break out those loading dies and start loading. Home made stuff shoots good too!

You want an expensive AR rifle, then be ready to spend on higher ammo prices. Jump into the craze, and learn to accept the facts.

What if you want an economically priced AR style rifle and 'reasonably' priced (say $.35/rnd) ammo?

You know...the way it was for maybe a couple of years until last month

The local news reported that a nearby town's law enforcement agency is running out of ammo and have no idea when they will be able to get more. For some reason, I had to snicker.

Just watched 20-1000 round cases of Aguila .223 ammo sell out in 5 minutes...(.50 cents a pc.)
