Prices coming down on AR15?

After all the craziness of the past 2 months, I have noticed that prices on gunbroker seem to finally be stabilizing. A fair number of no reserve AR15's are selling for around 1000 (still higher than normal for say a DPMS) but not as high as they were at the begining of January when I saw them going for 1400-1500!

I was a panic buyer too and after looking for months shopping around at the end of last year, taking my time, I was surprised by the craziness and bought a Colt 9mm AR15 for 1400. Luckily, the Colt still seems to be selling for around this price!

Did I not do as bad as I thought? I did not want a 9mm originally, but thought the ammo craze might not impact 9mm as bad as .223 (man was I wrong!) so went with it. Seeing the prices falling, I want to get a .223 too (and maybe get rid of the Colt).

Anyone have an opinion on a reasonable price for the Colt? Its a postban LE only marked police trade-in-externally pretty scratched up, but barely fired.

I thought about getting a coating for around $150, but that would put me in it at $1550 which is just getting ridiculous.

I also thought about just getting a new .223 upper and BCG with a drop in mag block, but I am not sure if that's worth the hassle.

Opinions?

And, are prices really coming down? My local Cabellas had about 15 AR15's in stock this past weekend and I was sorely tempted to buy one, but I figured if they have that many production must be meeting demand now!

Might as well wait for prices to fall some more (and since I cant find ammo ANYWHERE, what's the point?)

They have definitely come down from the highs of 3000 that I saw beginning in late January. Hopefully ammo will be following the decline.

I work for a large retailer of outdoor stuff.

After watching customers rush in the door when we open, and make fools of themselves running to the back to see if we had any AR platforms, this behavior has pretty much ended.

We received in three score of AR platforms a few days ago. A month and a half ago these would have been gone in a matter of hours, but they actually lasted until the next day. I think we went through 50, and sold the rest that next day.

.223 & 5.56 ammo has been in stock 6 of the last 9 days, though it doesn't really last much past late morning. Still, a month ago there was none arriving.

Only recently ran out of 7.62x39 ammo.

One small shipment of primers in the last three weeks.

Two shipments of 40 pounds or so of various reloading powders. All gone by early afternoon.

It does seem like demand is becoming saturated on the ARs, but I don't think production has quite recovered. BFI seems to be doing the best, followed by DPMS, then SW and Sig, with Ruger bringing up the rear. Colts are non-existent. I've seen two in three months. Both special orders from the summer time...yes, last summer.

Ammo and all reloading gear is still a frenzy in the morning. .22lr seems to be the toughest thing to get right now.

Good to hear!

Once this recent craze hit, my wife told me "I want an AR now."

Not because she wanted and AR, per se, but because of all the bruhaha about assault weapons bans, high capacity magazine bans, and so forth. She has somewhat of a problem with authority at times, and moves by those in the government to tell people (and thus her) what she can and cannot have got her riled up a bit.

Before this, she could have cared less about having an AR, or pretty much any gun in particular, for her very own.

Now, maybe when the dust finally settles, I'll be able to afford to get her a few firearms she's interested in.

Provided I survive sequesteration, what with me working for a government shipyard and all...
