Prices

Wouldn't have anything to do with the crash of our currency would it? Or the rising cost of materials? Or the increase in taxes, fees, etc. here in the US?
Nah, it MUST be those greedy capitalists..................... right........

Maybe we should have the government set the prices for shotguns at $150, handguns at $200, and rifles at $250 no matter whose make or model? That way everyone making minimum wage can buy anything...............
Really. Metals have gone down quite alot over the last few years. The dollar has been going up.

I just sold mine today was offered 10bucks less than I paid for it. Its a hot item so it likely wont cool off for a while.

At an LGS that moves a lot of new stuff out & gets a lot of used guns in on trades, I'm seeing a lot of like new USP pistols under $600, and barely used P30 pistols in the $650.00 range. I can't see paying up to $400.00 more for a new HK when these used ones barely have any noticeable wear on them.

Metals have gone down quite alot over the last few years. The dollar has been going up.

Taxes across the board have gone WAY up, ObamaCare care costs have added a lot of cost to company costs, shipping costs have gone up (for many of the same reasons), utilities have been rising steadily, the gov't has issued hundreds of new business regulations this year so far alone. Every "regulation" adds costs somewhere in the pipeline from raw goods to finished retail product. Then there is simply the huge increase of new gun buyers making the supply/demand curve skew.

If folks are thinking gun costs are dropping by huge amounts, the answer is no.

I bought a model 36 made in 1969 for 650. Came with box and papers and tools. The original price one the box reads $79. Am I a sucker???
I don't think it's outrageous at all, if it's a nice gun. About 3 years ago, I bought a very nice 3" 36 for $450, but with no box or papers. I figured I got a real good deal at the time, so 3 years later a nice 36 with all the papers, tools and box - $650 seems right. But yeah, 79 bucks sounds about right when they were new.

I should mention, however, this is the reason I'm not at all interested in boxes and paperwork. I don't like paying an extra money for cardboard, but that's just me...nobody else agrees with me. :)

Prices vary from location to location based on God only knows what a lot of times. Take gasoline for instance. I can drive around our little berg and find a variety of prices for the exact same thing. It's a side effect of capitalism.

What matters most to me is value; not price. If I feel I'm getting good value then it's a good price. Sometimes I pays a bit more; sometimes I pay a bit less. But by the time I actually plop down my money I'm always pleased.

I'll definitely second any comments on pricing increasing as demand goes up.

When I bought my XD 4" right after Springfield took over the H2000 I paid around $380 at the local store. Came with two mags, holster, basic cleaning stuff, etc.

Then four years later I worked for a few months for a major mainly brick and mortar gun store and sporting goods chain mentioned in this thread and our cost to order it was well over what I paid for mine. At this time, the same gun was selling street for ~$500-550

Then if I recall it went up a little more and now I think it's come down some as the XDS etc have taken more popularity.

So from my observations some significant portion of the price increase is either coming from the manufacturer, the distributor or both. Just my experience.

We also know Buds Gun Shop has a vending system that adjusts price base on their own sales demand which can be great if you catch on the downswing, not so hot on the upswing. lol.
