Hi Guys:

I recently went through some consternation about how to replace the stock optics on my late 80’s Colt Delta AR-15. At a forum member’s suggestion, I went with a Primary Arms 3x microprism mounted to the carry handle. It came in today and I mounted it with the optional carry handle mount screw and contoured bushing. Let me say I am impressed. The quality of the glass is first rate and the chevron reticle with BDC seems very practical. Of great benefit is the fact that, once mounted, it sits only about a half-inch above the rear sight and thus does not require a cheekpiece. I have no trouble getting a decent cheek weld and the illuminated chevron reticle is easy to acquire. I looked at ACOGs and while they are nice, none offer the low mounting options of the prism or the light weight. While I haven’t taken it shooting yet I have every expectation that it’ll be great. I am still capable of 2” groups with iron sights at 100 yards with my old Colt, but I know it can do better without going for some high-falootin’ scope. My goal is to show 2” groups at 200 yards and I think the rifle is capable of it, we’ll see soon if I am.

Let's see how it looks all done up!

I replaced the carry handle and 3x off my "bump in the night" carbine, but I'm putting together an extra upper because I liked that arraignment so much.

I'm a big fan of their 2x prism. I use the 7.62x39 ballistic reticle for subsonic rimfire on a non-AR, and the ballistic reticle lines up fairly well with sane ranges.

I just got a Burris 3x prism. It's hard to compare them directly, but I like it for the same reasons. I think I just like low power prism scopes in general.

I don't do tactical stuff, but there's just something luxurious about forgiving and clear low-power glass when plinking that you don't get from completely unmagnified or highly-magnified optics.

Hi Guys:

I agree! The fixed low power brings things a bit closer for the distances I shoot at - 200 yards max. The clear glass and (illuminated) chevron make target acquisition fast but it’s also totally fine enough for more precision work. It’s no benchrest optic, of course, but it’s very appealing and easy to use. It’s also light but sturdy. For $320, can it be beat? I don’t know. C-Grunt, the carry handle mount is built in to the unit. To mount it on a carry handle, you have to take off the weaver/picatinney mount that comes attached to it, and attach it to the carry handle with the unsupplied bushing and screw. The separate bushing and screw was available from Primary Arms for like $10, as I recall. Here’s a pic of it mounted on my vintage AR:
