primers? stocked up?

Check your local fire codes and your HOMEOWNERS insurance policy. Generally goes with national fire standards recommendations. 10,000 primers and 20 pounds of smokeless powder, over 20 pounds and up to 50 pounds total is to be stored in a WOOD cabinet or box with the wood being 1 inch thick and having a side made to open and release pressure. (a secured steel box is actually a BOMB). Do not store primers and powder together.

A local independent gun shop has a decent selection selling for $5/hundred. Gander Mountain has a better selection for $4. My local Walmart doesn't have anything in stock but get $3/hundred when they have them. I'm waiting for Walmart to get some in.

Sorta depends on the thickness of the steel and design of the box...maybe?

I mean, powder used to come in steel boxes (screw or snap top cans) and steel G.I. ammo boxes are designed to open at low internal pressures.

Back to "stocking up"... I also don't know what that means. I've used over 10,000 primers this summer and haven't replaced them yet. The prices are coming down here and are at $28.95/1000 at the moment. When they get down to ~$25/1000 I'll think about buying replacements for what I used this summer.

At our local gun show over the weekend there was a good supply of most all brands/sizes for $27-$30/1000. Today I went into Wholesale Sports & they had Federal, CCI & Remington all for $34.99/1000. I have plenty on hand, but will buy more from time to time as prices dip a little lower & did buy 10,000 assorted Wolf primers for $18/1000 plus S&H/Hazmat a few weeks ago to add to the pile.

I still can't find Winchester Small Pistol or Large Pistol primers. Other then that I am OK.

There is nothing wrong with Wolf/Tula primers, they are as good as any others.
I have used over 25,000 in the last two years without nary a problem.

Midway is having a "sale" on primers at the moment. But the shipping plus $25 hazmat fee eats up any savings unless you order in large quantities. Still, I take that as a sign that the supply chain has filled up again. There was a time, not too long ago, when virtually ALL primers were out of stock at Midway.

I am pretty well stocked on SR and LR primers, but would like to try some Federal LR match primers someday and do not see any around me, or at a price that I am willing to spend. Rem., Win., and CCI are very available.

I kind of worry about the insurance company more than any others if they find out you have reloading supplies in your house or other place that was burned down...!!!:fire:

But whatcha gonna do ?
Quit reloading....NOPE...Its too much fun...!
